Glad it went well for you! I think if they were wanting you to kind of recount your reasons for being interested in the program it was most likely evaluative, wanting to get a better sense of who you are than they can simply reading the statement on paper.

With decisions being released May 1st, you don’t have too long of a wait :)

Was it Eric you spoke with? When I called to check on the status of my materials he seemed really nice.

I do have an interesting piece of information though, the man I spoke with about my documents said they don’t always get a chance to interview everyone they consider a ‘finalist.’

He also said that they sometimes contact people for interviews to get a better feel of the applicant pool for the year, even if they’re not necessarily a finalist.

So, there’s still a slim chance for me even though I haven’t been contacted for an interview… but I’m not expecting anything, unfortunately.

Really nothing new to report.
1.Tell me about yourself
2. What are your plans for the future
3. Have you visited brown
4. I asked a few questions.

“Mr.Admissions” mostly talked about what Brown has to offer. It was more informative than evaluative.

I really don’t know about that. I’m a veteran, and I think I will be compared (mostly) against other vets when they determine if I will be admitted.

I am still very nervous, and I honestly don’t think I’m closer than anyone else.

Even if I am their pick for the military aspect of the RUE applicant pool, there is no saying that I will hold up against other “finalists.” After all, when all is said and done we are trying to be selected for 3-8 POSSIBLE openings. If there are 20-30 “finalists” that still doesn’t leave me feeling very confident.

I think that if they had similar applicants they would compare/contrast their experiences and achievements, and from that they may pick the “best” of that group. However, since the military is as diverse as the RUE applicant pool, there may be no set system for them to distill the “token veteran.”

FYI, this is me obsessing over a process which has granted me no insight into how it makes its selections. YAY for drawing wild conclusions.

To echo something stated in an earlier post:

Yes, I was also told about the “finalist” situation. I imagine that admissions departments have gotten pretty good at managing the expectations of overzealous applicants. Basically, just to reiterate, being called doesn’t mean you’re a finalist. Not being called doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of the running.

However, I find it difficult to imagine that they’d let anyone in without an interview. Of course, the exception to that would be the obviously qualified superhuman.

Well, there was a guy in the thread from last year who was apparently admitted without an interview… I don’t know his stats or anything like that.

I’m sort of confused about this whole called/not called finalist/not finalist situation. At the start of my interview, I was told point blank “congratulations you’re a finalist”… also, why would they waste time interviewing people who they weren’t interested in admitting… I mean come on guys… they’re excruciatingly busy… it just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
