Congratulations to all who are moving onto matching phase!!! What’s the likelihood one gets matched?
yay congrats to everyone who moved on! i’m also moving on i’m also curious abt acceptance rates and potentially submitting to research competitions. i’ve heard some pretty mixed things abt acceptance — some think the matching rate is pretty low, but i’ve seen people speculate that it’s around 50%. i think the overall acceptance rate for the program is somewhere around 15%(?)
wow everyone has such impressive stats… i’m definitely p mediocre in comparison lol but i’m super excited at the possibility of participating in this program!! good luck to everyone waiting to hear back.
@marshmalloes The acceptance rate overall is 13.5%
“The Research in Science & Engineering program is highly competitive and selective. In 2018, we received 740 applications for 100 slots.”
@Jedelm23 Where did you get the statistics?
Do you mind sharing your stats.
@pinky020816 Do you mind sharing your stats please. Did you have a strong STEM background.
@whataboutcollege The statistic is on the RISE FAQ page.
https://www.bu.edu/summer/high-school-programs/research/faq.shtml
The statistic is listed under the question about how competitive the program is
@ganfam I did research at a local university last summer which I’m competing in a bunch of science fairs in, I was a winner in a national science competition freshman year and a semifinalist in a different competition sophomore year, 1550 sat, and then a bunch of music/sports/newspaper/volunteer stuff :).
thank u for clarifying @Jedelm23
I still didn’t get any notifications from them, does that mean I was rejected?
I think i was rejected because I didn’t receive any information from them since I submitted my application…
@greenforrest200 I looked at some past year’s threads, and people seem to get matches/acceptances at different times. I wouldn’t be too worried.
Hello everyone
I am a parent, my son just got accepted into BU RISE Practicum. I am wondering what is the major difference between Research track vs. Practicum track. Is one better than the other? also, if any of you have done the practicum track can you please share your experience / review? Thank you all advance!
A lot of people seem to have acceptances/rejections already…this is making me extremely nervous
@greenforrest200 When did you submit your application? If you submit your application close to the due date, they might just started looking at your stuff right now. According to mine, I submitted mine on February 13th midnight(which is pretty close to the deadline) and on the email they sent me says that"An admission decision will be emailed to you within six to eight weeks of the February 21 application deadline". You will be FINE.
@KumarROH Hello, I believe the difference between the internship track and the particular is on the rise website:)
@greenforrest200 it’s possible that they’re sending out admission decisions in batches, which would explain why a bunch of people have received responses at around the same time. like depressedtomato said, it might be based on when you submitted your app, so if you turned it in closer to the deadline, maybe they haven’t had the chance to get back to you yet. it seems like people who got rejected received something explicitly saying that they didn’t get in - so if you haven’t gotten anything, don’t lose hope!
thanks! I am not too hopeful though because I have a very low SAT score and my GPA isn’t high since my school does not offer AP classes
Me neither, I can relate bro
@greenforrest200 Mostly people have received notifications that they are moving on to the matching phase, which is not an acceptance. Many people get rejected after moving on
