BU School of Communication's or Newhouse

I am down to four schools-Rutgers, UMD, BU, and Syr. However, BU and Syr both have really good school's of communications. Which one is better?

By far Syracuse is the best because the top three most prestigious undergraduate communications schools, not going in order of how good are Syracuse, Northwestern, & Missouri-Columbia.

i’m interested in tv and film

Then the television, radio, film program at Syracuse’s Newhouse school will become an asset in your career.

on the bu board one person said:

Whoa! BU has a film / tv production program and Syracuse is really not that. They have a film/tv/radio major that’s mostly communications / media stuff and with more limited options. If you want to be a broadcaster, that’s where Syracuse’s reputation sits, particularly in sports. If you want to make things, then BU is one of the top programs and does stuff that Syracuse does not.

is this true? what is newhouse’s film major like?

Untrue. SU actually offers two different approaches to film education. TRF in Newhouse and Film in the school of Visual and Performing Arts. I’m not a film major, so I don’t know the specifics of the programs, but I know a little about TRF just from being in Newhouse.

The TRF major gives you the option of going wide or going deep into a specialized area (production, screenwriting, etc.), which is where the BU poster might have gotten confused. You will make things. My friends are always lugging cameras around and begging me to be in their films. Also, the Newhouse reputation does not sit on sports broadcasting. We have strong alumni connections in every field, who will help place you into internships, jobs, etc.

I suggest calling up the schools to learn more about the details of each program. Then choose what’s best for you.

i got rejected from newhouse but got into cas … is it difficult to transfer within schools at syracuse, especially since newhouse is so prestigious?

marriedtor: CAS transfers are evaluated purely on GPA; highest to lowest until transfer seats are filled…some years: very difficult to transfer; others: easier…it just depends on how many try to transfer in: My daughter is a Newhouse freshman and this year, she says that “everyone and their brother” is trying to transfer in from all the other schools, not just CAS…

thanks!
I’m trying to decide between ucsd nyu and syracuse.
Truthfully, I don’t think I want to attend syracuse if it’s not for newhouse … so I guess this helps me narrow down my choices.
