Congratz to 2013! So, who's going? What are your travel plans if you've already figured them out? Does anyone know if Yale gives "travel vouchers" to kids to come to Bulldog Days? I'm just wondering cause I'm from Hawaii and it's gonna be about 700+ to come. Would Yale even consider giving one to someone who doesn't qualify for need based aid?

Also, does anyone know of any random discounts companies are giving out in response to Admit Weekend? On Stanford’s website they list a couple companies that are giving some discounts so I was wondering if any Yalies know of any too. Thanks all =D

This decision is gonna be mad crazy, huh? I have similar questions… I mos def qualify for need-based aid, and though I can make it to Stanford’s Admit Weekend, tickets for Yale would be like 400+ from California…

I’m going to be at BDD for mon and tues, then i have to go back home on wedns to catch the flight i already booked to Stanford. Its gonna be nuts.

llpitch, you can get the answer to that question by asking it on the admitted student website. They will respond quickly and accurately. Last year students who qualified for FA were given air travel vouchers. The rest of the kids were on their own.

BDD was VERY FUN for my daughter, and she completely fell in love with Y after attending, if she hadn’t already. Besides convincing her that Yale was the perfect fit, I know she loved meeting fellow 2012s, finding her way around campus, thinking a bit about what ECs she might want to be involved with, and basically making college feel real. When it came time to reading the Blue Book for class selection in the summer, it seems like she had a little more idea of what she might want to take, based on some conversations at BDD. Is it worth $600? She would probably say yes…

There weren’t really many other costs besides travel, which for her, also included the Connecticut Limo ride back and forth from Bradley Airport. Check their website for cost, and you will be able to get the Yale student price if you show evidence you are attending BDD. You would have ground transportation costs from any airport you fly in to. Otherwise, everything else was taken care of.

Oh, and BDD is not for Moms, much as we would love to attend…

Congratulations, 2013s!

^^ Yeah; kids who applied for financial aid get vouchers to pay for their ticket to Yale. I’m in NYC, so it doesn’t make too much of a difference for me.

Although I already confirmed my spot at Yale next year, I would never miss BDD. I get a chance to spend 3 days at Yale, being as close to a student as I can be without actually being one; miss 3 days of school; and get to have fun and meet my future classmates.

SO EXCITED!

I will for sure be there! Its going to be a crazy week for me… BDD, then to Memphis for only a couple of days for AcDec nationals, then Harvard… I’m SO excited! I know BDD will be amazing!!!

Parents can and do attend BDD. They have events for parents. You say goodbye to your son/daughter the afternoon of the 1st day and then meet up again when everything is complete.

We attended BDD and toured the Peabody, the two art museums and attended a sporting event. We had a great time walking the campus and eating at various nearby restaurants.

Thanks for clarifying (correcting!) my post, UMDAD. I didn’t mean to say parents aren’t welcome at BDD. If I had never visited Yale, I would have made this trip with her. I should have said that because Yale does such a complete job of taking care of the visiting students, parents don’t NEED to come along to take care of logistics, as they would during other visits. Sorry about the hasty, inaccurate post.

Since I’ve now turned this into a “should your mom go to BDD ?” thread, I’ll add one more thought:

If you do end up attending Yale in the fall, your parents will have two other big opportunities to visit; move-in weekend, and parents’ weekend. Yale provides lots of things for parents on those weekends, including tours, information sessions, and during parents’ weekend, lots of entertainment including athletics, music and theater.

If it’s difficult (financially or logistically) for your parents to make all three trips, and you don’t need or want their attendance during BDD, in order to make a decision about attending, I would put the effort toward the other two trips. We live far away and have younger children, so three trips to New Haven within a 6-7 month period was just not practical. UMDAD and others may have more to say about parents at BDD. Since I didn’t go, I possibly have a skewed viewpoint.

I agree with riverrunner.

If your parents can afford it and want to see Yale and how they welcome the newly admitted, by all means they should attend. I just wanted to point out that parents are welcome to come to BDD.

As riverrrunner said, they will have other opportunities to see Yale and New Haven.

does yale give vouchers to EVERYONE who applied for fin aid?? cuz well that’s kind of a lot… lol. is it merit-based at all?

Just call Hannah. I’d imagine that vouchers would be for those awarded fin aid. Not everyone who applies qualifies.

It certainly wouldn’t be merit based whatsoever.

When buying the requisite Yale souvenirs, make sure to include mom & dad. They probably had a lot to do with your getting there (and probably will be a big part of your attending as well – $$$$)

Have fun all!

Yeah I applied and wasn’t awarded any fin aid and I won’t be getting any vouchers…which sucks cause I’m from Hawaii…

We just bought the tickets today =] I’m flying into Newark on Saturday to visit an uncle in Pennsylvania before we drive up Monday morning. I’m leaving from BDL at 6pm on Wednesday and get to Stanford at 12:05am =[

Uhh i got ~30k per year in aid and i got no voucher?? :(

Same question here. How do you find out if you’ve been awarded a voucher? I haven’t received my acceptance packet yet. Does it come in there? Should I call? I got my travel expenses covered for the admit days at both Harvard and Princeton. Wouldn’t I qualify for Yale?

Just call and find out for sure.
@llpitch: back to back visits to Yale/Stanford? hells yea

Yale sent me an email about my voucher. I’m getting upwards of 40K a year in financial aid though, i’m thinking there might be a cutoff? Like if you are paying less than 10K you get a voucher?

I remember when I did back to back visits to Yale and Stanford…good times. But it wasn’t quite as stressful as I am from California. You guys should really enjoy yourselves!

I signed up to host for Bulldog Days and I’m looking forward to it!
