although i dont agree completely with what Hawk has to say, to think that Arabs wil cut off oil to the United States is absolutely bizarre.

as Hawk quite bluntly pointed out- Iaq and Afghanisthan are already "friendly" 9Iraq- 3rd largest oil reserves, Afghanisthan is rumoured to have the bggest untapped reserves) and then theres alaska.

and it really doesn't matter about what the people in the middle east think- most countries are run by kings, and they are cozy with america.

Unfortunately the people generally rebel and then all that sleeping with america backfires - the shah in iran, and the subsequent arrival of the ayatollah khomeini on the scene is a case in point.

I'llbeback, Iraq is not going to be friendly to the US for long. At the moment, the US is well entrenched, but the Iraqis (and I know this for a fact) do not like Americans. You guys are responsible for the deaths of millions of Iraqis over the last 20 years. You supoorted Saddam in order for him to keep the Shi'ite majority under controil, no matter what the cost. And then, you turned your backs on the Shi'ite in the 90s, causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. As for Afghanistan, they have very little oil. They have a lot of gas, but not oil.

And do, it would not be bizarre if the Arabs decided to stop selling oil to the US. It is not likely to happen anytime soon, but at the present rate, Arab countries could have no choice. If Arab countries were democracies, I can tell you that if Arab states were truly democratic and the wishes of the people carried weight, the Arabs would have cut all ties with the US many years ago.

NO....most oil companies are NOT american/british/frech....oil companies are predominantly Arab, and then a few are South American...Most of America's oil is imported directly from Saudi Arabia.

I hate to break it to you I'llbeback, but Americans have never liked Arabs. The only hope for Arabs are fellow Arabs. But we can at least count on the French and maybe the Asians.

"the money is pumped back into the american economy"

sounds like the the trickle down classical economic theory of Herbert Hoover

nahrafsa you and I may disagree on some points, but you're all right and you're able to defend your points well without launching senseless flame wars

And yes, I think the Europeans have it correct. If the netherlands had a colony in the caribbean... I would move there in a heartbeat!

not a former colony, but a current colony sort of like how the british have the falklands

"i'm sick of arguing with little 17 year old highschool juniors that think they're soo smart when with every post, they just make themselves look stupider...your responses make little sense...you always forget a word or 10 and just make yourself look even more illiterate"

Whatever. Looks like you have something against 17 year olds. Just because you are 2 years older doesnt make you a more mature person, just the idea makes you immature. ^_^

this debate over the economy will get nowhere. Obvioulsy the economy is not good but the conservatives can go on and on using really useless information to support their arguments. I am going to post on the dartmouth thread and i hope to have a fun debate over a better topic--- Bush's policy regarding student aid. I think this topic is very important and I have compiled alot of information and sources to support my argument. Anyone interested feel free to come!!

well obviously you haven't gone through the maturing process that college provides...so i do consider myself more mature than you.....but that's not the only reason....the way you argue without presenting any credible information just leads me to assume that you are still just a kid oblivious to what goes on in the world, and that you don't know how government/the economy works. Furthermore...take a macroeconomics class whenever you get to college...unlike you...many of the individuals in this thread actually have their arguments backed up with economic/political theory and statistics...like i mentioned in a previous post...you do nothing but cheer on liberals and put down conservatives....you contribute nothing to the debates...you're just a cheerleader....not a very good one at that.

could u name a few big arab oil companies please? apart from ARAMCO

"well obviously you haven't gone through the maturing process that college provides"

You dont know anything about me. Ever heard of Dual enrolment? Thats where you do courses at a local college and get college and high school credit at the same time. And so I do have some maturity at college level. I did not take Macroeconomics, but i did take Economics with International Trade and so i do have some knowledge if not alot. Its funny how you come come to conclusions about me so quickly without knowing much about who I am. And you can whine about all about my posts and how I cheerlead others. If you check the Dartmouth thread, I was the only liberal providing arguments with more conservatives through half of the entire thread. I think i provided fairly reasonable arguments even though i was outnumbered. So all your complaints and whining will further show your immaturity even though you are a student at UVa.
