How good is the business program ? What kind of internships/job placement ? Udel vs UMD Smith Business School

Anyone have input on this?

In your case, go with the one that’s cheaper. UMD and UD have pretty equally-ranked business programs and because they’re so close to each other, I doubt that recruiting would be much different.

I’m from Newark so I have in-state at UD, but I’m ultimately choosing to go to Indiana this fall because the business program is better there. I know some older guys who graduated from UD and they said they weren’t too impressed by the recruiting that UD had to offer. They said that the best jobs that were being offered to students were Deloitte Federal Consulting, J&J, and accounting roles at the Big 4 firms. Most of the other jobs were back-office roles at regional companies.

To be honest, you go to UD for engineering, not business. The school’s top-10 in chemical engineering, and since all of the engineering companies come down for the chem kids, they recruit a lot for the other engineering majors as well (mech, aero, bio). Business doesn’t have the same opportunities as engineering does at UD.

Son got into UMD for Smith Business School and UD for engineering but is worried Engineering might be " boring" although he is very proficient in math - 790 SAT , 5 on AP Calc AB/ BC. Loves the campus and feel of UD , but admitted student day at UMD was very impressive, especially for Smith Business . Got only 2k at UMD, 7700k at UD…we are out of state and the $ is certainly a factor. He got the feeling that Engineering was a crazy hard work load and no time for social life. Any thoughts ? Seems there are more jobs in theEngineering area.
