BYU Admissions/Scholarships freshmen of 2011

Why does BYU wait so long to admit? We have admit letters, and $ amounts from most of the other schools applied to (they are already pressuring for decision,) and don’t know anything about BYU yet. It is DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

@nicollec:
Well, luckily, that should all be over pretty soon. The reason why they wait so long is because their REAL deadline isn’t until Feb. 1st and they want to make sure that they don’t start admitting people until they know the whole demographics of their admissions pool in GPA, ACT, Extracurriculars, etc. I mean who knows, maybe a bunch of extremely qualified people all decided to turn in their application on January 31st?! Of course that’d be unwise, but it’s possible, and then the admissions people would have less admissions letters to give out and they would feel dumb. And based on the conversations I’ve had with the people in admissions, they said that things used to be fine and they used to be able to predict the applicant pools really well, but then one year they were doing that and the scenario I just illustrated happened, and they made a big “oops.” I’m pretty sure that’s why.

Has anyone received any news yet? I would have thought that by this far into the month they would have at least notified people with priority registration…

They have a page on facebook. On there, they’ve said that it’s taking longer than expected and that they have more applicants than ever before. They say the earliest we will hear from them is the beginning of next week and the latest is the 28th…Good luck everyone!

any lucky admitted students yet? i applied priority and i haven’t heard yet. I got into Idaho really quick and i must say Provo is taking its time! They must have a lot of applicants this year, i hope i get in!! :slight_smile: good luck everyone!

still no word yet…

Turns out they’ve started to send acceptance/denial emails. I haven’t gotten mine yet.

I love BYU. Good luck!

ADMITTED!!! Anyone else!? All of the admittance/denials were sent out last night! Check your besmart.com “check application status” links!! From what I can see it looks like a lot of people got admitted–I don’t have a single friend who I know of right now who has gotten denied yet!

Got the admit email today. Scholarship decisions won’t be made for 2-3 weeks according to the email.

Good luck all!!

I got admitted too! I know someone who didn’t get admitted though. And I know a few sports players who aren’t admitted, but also aren’t denied yet. They won’t get in unless they want to recruit them.

ah man! exciting news!! congrats all. Now, the apprehension about scholarships is the next phase… ah!

I received my acceptance letter today as well!

Now I’m faced with the tough decision on where to go. I have it narrowed down to two colleges, both with amazing perks and disadvantages.

nish46
What’s your other school? What are the disadvantages?

What about international students?

Were all of the emails sent out? Has anyone else not heard one way or the other?

@mancala:
if you haven’t heard one way or the other, try getting on besmart.com and clicking the link “check application status,” then sign in, and it should say “admitted” or “denied” where you have submitted your application.

Anyone heard anything about scholarships?

still no word… :/

BYUorBUST did you sign up for housing? What did you pick? Why?

@nicollec
I did sign up for on-campus housing, but we get to select our rooms at the end of March/early April. I am planning on living in the new dorms where Deseret Towers used to be; they are going to be an extension of Heritage Halls, but new. They’re supposed to be pretty sweet. Here’s the link to the announcement and description:

I am going to live there because it’s close to campus, it has more of an apartment style living atmosphere, I can do my own cooking or food if I want, and I have some friends who also want to live there. Hopefully it all works out!
