Cal Grant at Berkeley...there's no mention of it in my package!

Hey, so I just realized that no mention of a Cal Grant B shows up on my Berkeley financial aid package. However, at all other UC's, I'm receiving this....for $10,000! Clearly this would be a huge factor in my decision making. Are you guys receiving the Cal Grant B from Berkeley? Do they not offer this or something? I can't imagine why every other school is offering it but Berkeley.

Yeah, I didn’t get it either!

okay, another almost identical topic: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/755177-uc-berkeley-fin-aid-cal-grant-not-showing-up.html

"EDIT: Oh nevermind. Turns out that there’s a theoretical maximum of free aid I can get and they’re giving me what they fully can. They’re replacing the Cal Grant with more University Grant so that I get the most amount.

This happen to anyone else? I changed my school from UCLA to UC Berkeley a long time ago at the Cal Grant page and UC Berkeley never seemed to update my Cal Grant award on there! "

Well that certainly sounds pretty stupid that they cap the grants they give at $16,500, since that’s where I’m at (and my EFC is 0).

I mean, UCLA’s offering me like $24,000 haha. Come on Berkeley.

I’m wondering if maybe what that guy says doesn’t apply to me though. $11,000 of what I’m receiving are the “Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship” and not the “University Grant”, so I’m thinking that might make things different…

Who knows. I sent them an E-mail, so I guess I’ll see what they say.

Davis told me the same thing that jyi90 was told – once Cal Grants are awarded it won’t change my free aid. I guess they determine a certain amount of grant aid and cap it, so its independent of its sources and their various amounts. I was also told the entering Davis UG scholarship is a grant, not actually a scholarship… Maybe its all part of the budget cuts…

I just checked my Cal Grant and I was awarded more than I’m getting in my Davis UG scholarship, so hopefully they replace it with the Cal Grant. Either that or the smug lady (not indicative of other Davis staff, BTW) I talked to at the Davis FinAid office didn’t know what she was talking about, which is what I’m hoping. I want both of the awards!

You didn’t think it would be actually free right? My efc is 0 and the grants are covering about 2/3 of the cost. What a deal.

Did all of you get your Cal Grant status changed on the Cal Grant website? Mine is still pending.

Are you guys saying that even if my Cal Grant award comes out, it won’t be added to my current Cal FA if the maximum in gift aid has been reached?

I hope they will take the Cal Grant into consideration for my Berkeley aid & possibly increase aid… Will I need to “change schools” on the mygrantinfo site? 'Cause my “first choice” was UCLA.

I called the Financial Aid Office about this last week. They haven’t received Cal Grant information for transfers yet, so I wouldn’t worry about it yet. :)

ohh okay. Hope that’s why they didn’t include it yet, ioi!
