HELP PLEASE!

I don’t really know what this means

I was admitted to UCLA and when I got my financial aid email they said I received a 15k gift aid for outstanding academic standing however I got my cal grant email today saying I was disqualified for my award. Does this mean I got my 15k taken away?

I just got a letter and a scholarship award in the mail last week congratulating me on my accomplishments and now I get this email

on my cal grant page it says CAL GRANT A B and C not awarded so does that mean my 15k has been taken away?

Please let me know!! Thanks!

okay thanks give me one sec

im new to this site and i dont know how to upload a screenshot haha

okay don’t worry about it. the 15k is coming directly from ucla and not cal grants. so you’ll still get your 15k. just not from cal grants

Okay I hope so! The email kind of freaked me out but basically on my UCLA Financial aid provisional letter award it says UCLA costs: $29,796 then below it, it says Gift Aid: Scholarship Recognition Award: $15,000 then below it, it says NET UCLA Costs $14,796

so I’m hoping this means I still get the 15

thanks for your help @philosoup

no problem. cal grant has nothing to do with your ucla scholarship. you’ll get the 15k even if you don’t qualify for Cal Grants.

Do you go to SMC?

@philosoup- You think I should just fudge, huh? Its not as if I didn’t attend a CA HS, I just didn’t finish there for personal reasons. If I didn’t qualify for the entitlement calgrant, why wouldn’t they just have given me the competitive calgrant? How much did you get? They gave me around 13K and its on hold.

@philosoup no, i attend saddleback

@kindgom yeah just go for it. being honest in this situation won’t do you any good imo. and you lived in ca for almost your whole life. but you won’t be considered a resident because you spent 1 or 2 yrs in a different state temporarily? nah. and I’m the same as you. 13k on hold.

@ilovecollege oh okay

Seriously I think they’re just going to see who put yes and no as quickly as they can. they won’t be running background checks on you, I’m sure of that LOL

Please help me understand:

My UCI Estimated Cost is $30, 393k

My Gift Aid shows $21,493

Estimated Loans $8,900

My Cal Grant B shows $13,700

So, that $13,700 is part of my UCI Gift Aid, correct? So the difference of $7,700 is contributed by UCI? Either way I would be expected to pay an estimate of $8,900.

Thanks

@Philo- See, thats what I’m thinking. They probably wont do a comprehensive check or anything, but isn’t the Cal Grant forwarded on to the UC which has that information? Idk. I think I’ll take a trip down to my CCC’s finaid office tomorrow and see what they say.

@irvine you’ll probably get pell grants and uci grants etc.

@kingdom eh it’s really moot at this point. you have nothing to lose by saying something incorrectly on that form. if they find out oh well life goes on. but if they dont then you will get the cal grant. im not sure if going to your CCC for help would be a good idea…they might tell cal grant? Idk but it’s really up to you imo

mine is still pending and the site still lists my community college as my college of attendence, is that normal? if not, do you guys know how i can change that?

Apparently, when I filled out my FAFSA, I said I wanted off-campus housing. Is there any way to change this? I want on-campus housing for at least my first year. Any help would be appreciated!

@bougie- Since its for the 2012-2013, it should reflect the college you’re transferring to. Mine says UCSC because I placed it at the top of my list of schools on the FAFSA. I hear that the way you list your schools on there shows level of importance. I also read on the CSAC website that if you list your CCC first, they presume you’re attending it again. If you need to change your school, you can do it on the CSAC website.

@shortstuf- I think you have to amend your FAFSA. Thats the only place I know of where you select your housing preference.

@philo- I doubt they’d communicate with CSAC if I just asked them a question. Technically though, I was under 18 when I graduated from HS. So, I would’ve assumed their residency…needless to say, they were CA residents. I dunno how it works now though.

I’m ineligible, as expected. No Cal Grant, no FAFSA. Yay for paying the full ~30k…D:

Just talked to some1 who got it a few years ago and did not have to graduate from a CA High school!
Looks like the budget cuts are really biting up there…

@kingdom
most calgrants are for california high school grads (maybe that is new, not sure). and blue and gold is for residents. you mentioned that you might get the chafee aware, not sure how those work.

but just be careful not to mis state any information on your application. i personally don’t think that is worthwhile. the internet delivers info like this globally and you will be covered by blue and gold at UCSC.

@moon9kittie
hope we get it this year anyway. i lost 18 points too. 9 for each parent. the guy at calgrant was so embarrassed when he told me about that. heh. oh well, blue and gold dudes!

@SH2mathecon
interesting, well, they used to have a clause about attending a california high school, but not graduating. and of course GED’s are acceptable too.

i have a question on the second part with the check mark box.

something about " mark this box if you are resident when you graduated from high school, but graduated or receiced GED outside of california due to parents military something forgot. and then the BOLD PART SAID “leave this box empty if you graduated from a california high school or graduated from a high school in a state of california” so i leave it blank, it was so fking confusing. I didn’t check the box.

also my ucla grant came before calgrant actually out, does it mean i can get another extra 13k? Since it shows like this

federal = 3k
uclas grant 13k

I didn’t see cal grant though.
