Okay so it had just come to my attention that when you apply to UC schools, you have to fill out a Cal grant Gpa form. Ive never heard of this so I looked it up and saw that I had to fill one out and the deadline has passed. I don't know where to go on from here and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you have to? I mean I don’t think it will effect your chances of admission or anything, however if you need financial aid, then it would have been wise to apply for it since it is free money. It’s too late to apply for the cal grant unless you plan to attend a community college, in that case you have until September 2nd. Assuming you filled out the Fafsa ,then you should have applied for the Pel grant, which I believe can give you an award up to 5500. You can always apply for scholarships,if when filling out the Fafsa you checked consideration for work study, that can help alleviate some of the cost, and if all else fails there’s always loans, one year shouldn’t put you too deep into debt…

I could really use the fin aid which is why I feel so stupid for not knowing to apply. I read about a late application and that I would have to appeal? Yeah I filled out the fafsa and the pellet grant thing. I’m just mad at myself for not knowing about it though.

From what I know… my counselor filled it out for me.

My FASFA also automatically applied for a Cal Grant for me.

Have you gotten any emails from the CalGrant website or logged into it? I didn’t know I qualified until I got an email.

Not 100% sure if we’re talking about the same thing though? >_<

^ I think you mean the pel grant? I know for me I had to sign a waiver allowing my school to send in my GPA, counselors don’t have the right to give out your information without permission. About appeal?? I don’t known try asking a counselor, I found this though “What if I missed the March 2nd deadline due to reasons beyond my control?
If you missed the March 2nd Cal Grant deadline due to reasons beyond your control, you may be able to submit a late GPA verification form. By law, the reason you missed the deadline must have been beyond your control. Entitlement students at csac.ca.gov and must be received by CSAC no later than May 20. Competitive students may also appeal and their appeals must be received by 3/25.”

My counselor never mentioned it to me. I dont think she knew about it either. Are you from cali? Im from chicago so maybe that has something to do with it not being done automatically. I guess Im going to have to appeal.

That’s probably it, unless you mention that you’re going to school in Cali your counselor would not know or think to mention it. I live in SoCal, so it was made a big deal here they have us the forms in September even though it was due in March. I hope all goes well with your appeal!

I actually talked to my counselor quiet a few times about applying to uc schools so I’m sure she knew. Oh well i guess and thanks for the advice!

Oh… I live in south California.
So like CaliforniaRooted, our counselors let seniors who were OK with school info being sent out sign a paper.

Good luck with the appeal! =3

How is your appeal going? I also did not know about applying for the Cal Grant. I thought it came included in the FASFA. I filled out my appeal and mailed it yesterday morning.

Appealing for the Cal Grant will not work if your excuse is you didn’t know about it or your counselor didn’t inform you.

It has to be a case where you unable to submit your GPA verification due to circumstances beyond your control.
