I just got accepted to Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Long Beach for mechanical engineering. I'm not sure what school is better for mechanical engineering. I want to get into the automotive field and both schools have the SAE club. I like how LB is by the beach and seems like a nicer campus, and it will also take me a yr less to finish at LB, since Poly has 3 quarters worth of specific general ed classes that they want, that are not offered at my community college. Also LB is a semester system, which I am very used to. The main reason why I can't decide is because I always thought Poly was very well known for their engineering. Also, If I go to LB I will live out there and drive to Poly (37 miles away).

They are both Cal State so cost is about the same. Why wouldn’t you want to go into the better school for only 6k more?

Long Beach has good opportunities, Poly has more. I would think Poly is more difficult on the quarter system. Faster pace and more classes taken in a year. If you want a more challenging and hands on curriculum, Poly. If you want to go to a school w/ a better environment Long Beach.

I imagine that Poly name on your degree will give you more rewards. You can knock out GE’s during intersession and breaks
