My boyfriend was rejected for mathematics. :c Had around a 3.8, I believe.
@Jaximus Here are price differences between Cal Poly SLO and UCI.
SLO: https://financialaid.calpoly.edu/_finaid/coa1617.html
UCI:

If we’re comparing estimate totals, UCI is only $6,000 or $7,000 more expensive. I don’t know where you get the 2x and 3x numbers, but I understand that several thousand dollars doesn’t just fall from the sky. If you show me a link for more accurate numbers, then I could get where you’re coming from. I’m fortunate enough to not have to worry about the price difference that much, so I understand you going for the CSUs only. They will teach you business skills in a practical way, like accounting.
Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to apply to a few UCs last fall, but I did and I am also taking second semester calc now as a result. I didn’t really qualify for LB, SDSU, or Fullerton, since they wanted either a philosophy class (ethics), a basic computing class, or a business communication class. I’m not in the service area for those schools, so it would have been risky. I was lucky to get into SJSU despite missing the basic computing class. Cal Poly is probably my first choice for being a great CSU for business - accounting.
Denied. 3.1 GPA journalism
IGNORE PREVIOUS POST. I couldn’t delete it. Revised:

If we’re comparing estimate totals, UCI is only $6,000 or $7,000 more expensive. I’m only talking about if either both a UC and a CSU were close enough to commute from home or if a UC and a CSU were someone’s plans to live there. I wasn’t talking about if someone wanted to commute to a CSU vs. living on campus at a UC. This was probably where you got the “2x and 3x more expensive.”

Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to apply to a few UCs last fall (I did the essay during November), but I did and I am also taking second semester calc now as a result. I didn’t really qualify for LB, SDSU, or Fullerton, since they wanted either a philosophy class (ethics), a basic computing class, or a business communication class. I’m not in the service area for those schools, so it would have been risky. I was lucky to get into SJSU despite missing the basic computing class, but SJSU is local to me. Cal Poly is probably my first choice for being a great CSU for business - accounting.
Denied for CS.

My admission status says
“Thank you for giving us the opportunity to consider your application for admission to Cal Poly. We regret we are unable to offer you admission due to the extremely limited number of openings available.”
Glad I got uc davis as my back up
For business admin majors, do you think it would have made a difference if they asked you for your concentration during the application process? SJSU asked what my business concentration was on my application, but I know SLO didn’t. If they did ask, then they should have a better idea on how to fill in the spots.
Do they not ask, due to already existing Freshmen and Sophomores at SLO not declaring their concentration until their junior year or whenever they hit the upper division?
@TheLongRun You know, I had actually sent an email to admissions last week regarding that as I’m a Bus. Admin major. I thought on my CSU mentor app for Cal Poly I had neglected to declare a concentration, but I had received a response the next day (the day after I got waitlisted) that essentially “no worries, you are able to declare your concentration if you are offered admission.”
Edit: To actually answer your question, I think it would not have had much of an effect.
@Winonos I guess it’s not their style based on what admissions told you. You didn’t neglect to add a concentration, I think. I’m pretty sure I would have added a concentration if it was there. If it was at the very bottom of the selection box, then that was cruel. I figured it would be under Bus Admin, like any normal selection box. I selected Economics as a back up because I would have selected a back-up concentration, if that was an option.
I don’t get why they just don’t reject me… this wait is really annoying.
@TheLongRun Yeah, they told me that too. At first I was panicking. QQ That would be cruel, I remember the major selections were close to each other on the app. :c
@rlssd1 That was me when my portal was “no determination.” Now being waitlisted I’m not sure if it’s any better–some people have cited statistics from last year that it may as well be a “delayed” rejection. Hang in there! :c
Rejected and I’m so heartbroken ):

Major: stats? Math? I forget
ACT 25
Cal Poly GPA, I forget…maybe 3.5?
did someone say it’s possible to send a letter explaining why you should be admitted?
I accidentally posted in the transfer thread. Disregard, please.
@rlai45161 why were you half expecting it?
@justinmega1 After seeing last year’s admission stats, i knew it was gonna be a tough admit even with my stats. Sad because it was my number 1 choice.
@TheLongRun Yeah unfortunately I will be not be commuting (except on the off-chance I decide to attend SDSU), so I very much have to take into account living expenses
I applied for the Bio major and got rejected with a 3.9
I had all courses done except for physics
Hopefully things work out with the other schools i applied to
