@victorypham I totally feel your pain! I’m still in disbelief. Another reason why SLO is hard to get into is because they do base some of their decision on location and not where you go to college - where you went to high school. I think it’s totally unfair and I really really wish they accepted under different circumstances
I am completely in shocked. I have never expected to be accepted.
(p/s: It’s my second time applying to Cal Poly SLO)
For your information:
Major: Political Science (Pre-Law)
CCC: Foothill College
Completed Units: 110 (All transferable)
GPA: 3.19
ADT Completed
I am also accepted to SJSU, SFSU, CSULB, CSULA, and CPP.
Waiting offers from UCSD, UCLA, UCSB and UCD although I know my chances are rather slim.
I was thinking SJSU would be my best bet. Now I am probably going to SLO!
Good luck everyone!!!
@invertedgeek Congrats!! c: I’m curious, did you find out just today?
stilllllllllllllllll nothing, I’ve given up
@bmxsesh I think your GPA is above average comparing to 2016 admittance. Did you finish all of the major preparation courses(physics I,II,III Cal I, II, III, IV, linear analysis) and English Composition and Speech?
if you did all of the courses, I believe you will be a competitive candidate. Plus, you have completed some desired courses.
Anyway, I am doing CPE, and also an Int student Still waiting for my decision too.
Good Luck.
@Jaximus I would say don’t give up yet! You still have a shot at getting in
@Jaximus still stuck on that damn screen for me too. Maybe they are giving us consideration for scholarships? Or waiting to reject us. hahaha
business admin major
3.9gpa
GE:finished
prereq:finished (they want bus calc but I took three semesters of calc so eh fk it lmao)
decision:not available yet.
I wonder what’s taking them so long to give me a decision. regardless if I get rejected or accepted it’s not my first choice and my backup lol.
good luck to those still waiting!
Hey, first time poster here. Awaiting response back from Cal Poly for transfer to the CLA there from Cuesta College down the road. I have heard a few of my classmates claiming they were accepted with the same major (Political Science) as myself.
@FutureMissPT My first question to you would be how do you know CP bases their decisions off of student prospect high school location and what if you split your high school years between a well-respected high school and a not-so-respected (or rather small) high school?
Second question is how do some students in the same community college campus get accepted for transfer, while others are left awaiting a decision?
@invertedgeek Congrats to you for your very exciting news! I am a PolSci major awaiting word back from Cal Poly too and am just keeping the faith that I will get back good news in being accepted as well. It’s easier said than done not getting beat up about it internally wondering what the hold up is, especially when I am constantly hearing so many other students here at Cuesta getting accepted in CP. I’m stoked to hear you got in though and your the first PolSci major I have read about on here getting accepted into Cal Poly. How exactly did you notice and on your CP Student Admissions screen, does it give a message being accepted where it once read “no determination has been made yet?”
@TomahawkChop Based on my experience with college counselors, they have all explained to me that CSU campuses serve their local applicants first. If those local applicants fit within the GPA requirements and the fulfilled classes, they are more likely to be accepted. For example, my “feeder school” is CSULB And CSUF. I fit their requirements, so I got into CSULB. I can’t confirm your inquiry about changing high schools, but my assumption would be where your current residency is. I am not an expert on the subject, but I do my research and listen to experts in the field. This link provided by CSUMentor outlines the local area agreements that each CSU has: http://www.calstate.edu/sas/onestopkiosk/documents/CSULocalAdmission-ServiceAreas.pdf . In addition, I found a video series on YouTube from Cuesta College about how to do the SLO application correctly. I used this channel’s video series: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjSfHbfbT5D5HBOAXfZ_8wQ and she explained in one of the videos that it depends on where you went to high school (NOT college) for the location agreement.
As far as some awaiting a decision, it always depends on the pool of applicants for the selected major and what each applicant has to offer in terms of completed courses and GPA. I can’t speak for Cal Poly, but that is the information that all college counselors have given me.
Hoping for the best for you! It’s brutal waiting for a response back. Good luck (:
Provisional Admission to CP! Still didn’t expect to get in whatsoever
Philosophy Major
3.5 GPA
Ge: finished!
Units: 71 by the end of spring
Transferring from NAU-CCC-CSU/UC
Waiting to hear back from UCLA, UCSB, UCB, and CSUN
UCLA is my first choice for Anthropology BA then SLO, Berkeley, UCSB.
My CCC is located in Santa Clarita, CA so hearing back from CPSLO before CSUN is odd, but apparently they have yet to review my NAU transcripts!
Good luck everyone! Hope you all get in
@juliamarie15 When did you receive your admission?
Have any international students heard anything from SLO yet? either Accepted, Waitlisted, or Rejected?
@lankysequoia I am an international transfer student and I do have access to portal. I am still waiting for the decsion though.
@FutureMissPT Thank you again for the helpful info. I asked about the high school split and its effects on location preferences for them because I went to high school as a freshman and sophmore in Paso Robles, but relocated to southern California for my last two years. Also, of the 4 or 5 people I have heard gained acceptance, none of them went to high school in this county, not a single one, so I have my doubts about the HS location being a factor, even though it does make perfect sense. What I found out yesterday is that California lawmakers have pressure the UC’s into setting a cap on out-of-state/country acceptance to allow more homegrown students the opportunity and I would have to believe that would trickle down to the CSU levels as well. Either way, whatever they decide, I am gonna be upbeat about and roll with. I just leave it in the hands of God and focus on the present time and what I need to do to get where I am headed.
@FishoMath i heard back on Feb. 21!
I am curious whether total transferable units is playing a role in their admissions decisions. For example, a student that has completed GE/IGETC and major prep with 60 units vs. 90+ (regardless of GPA). The student with the higher unit count will be able to graduate faster (within 2 years), allowing the school to better plan for future enrollment in that major. For students that have been admitted, how many total transferable units will you complete at the end of Spring 2017 term?
@lmcc13tr I would have 96 transferable units completed at the end of Spring 2017.
There’s another outage tonight scheduled from 8pm-12am PST so maybe they will be uploading more admission decisions tonight, its been rather quiet in the transfer area so maybe both US and international students will hear back, good luck everyone!
