Cal poly slo fall 2017 transfer thread

@lmcc13tr I’ll have about 180 semester units before transfer and I got accepted for Mfg Eng with a 3.85 GPA.

@bianca123456 : Hey, I am actually considered an out of state student at my CC right now, because I moved to California recently in hopes of going to a college here. I actually went to a university out-of-state before going to a CC here. I got an acceptance email to Cal Poly on the 21st. I’m not sure if they count me as out of state, but if you have any questions, let me know!

@lmcc13tr I’ll have 63 units completed and I got accepted for journalism with a 3.81
GPA

Does anyone know how financial aid works? Was pretty certain I’d get more, but it may be that Cal grant hasn’t been awarded yet?

When I use Berkeley’s Financial Aid Estimator I get like 22k, but cal poly has only awarded me like 1.5k.

@LandUseLaw they listed my Cal grant under “State University Grant” but it also depends on which Cal grant you’re awarded. Tuition for UCs are generally higher than CSUs. For example, Berkeley’s tuition is around 14k but the average tuition at a CSU is around 6.5k (CP’s tuition is a little over 9k). So, the amount of financial aid you receive for a UC is more than the financial aid amount for a CSU. The percentage of financial aid should be about the same.

Hi,
I haven’t received my decisions yet but when I logged into the portal few days ago,
it said to turn in a final transcript as soon as the current semester is over.
I first thought that they meant Fall 2016 semester so I called the admissions office and asked if I should turn in a transcript at this moment. But the lady told me that I should turn it in by July 15th…
And it is still remaining on my to-do-list. So now I’m wondering if I got into the school,
I mean, why would they put it on my list if they will reject me? Right?
Cal poly is my first choice, so I may be just being paranoid about nothing…
Does ‘final trancript’ show on other people’s portal too?
Fyi, the decisions for my major is expected to be released on April 1st.
I will really appreciate your thoughts!

@Vivien123 I do have final transcript under my to-do list. I think we suppose to send another transcript once our spring 2017 grades are out.

@Vivien123 Are you international?

@FishoMath do u know your admissions decision?
@lankysequoia yes, i’m an international student.

@Vivien123 I’m still waiting for it. The school said they will let me know before the end of this month .

@FishoMath I see, do u mind me asking what you’re majoring in? I major in architecture btw.

@Vivien123 you can check my state on post #169

@FishoMath oh i guess then it’s just sth that shows up on international student’s portal…?

@Vivien123 I think it is normal to have Final Transcript on to do list for both international and domestic students. I also have that task on other schools portal.

@FishoMath Oh i see, I was just a little confused because all the other applicants that I know do not have that on their to-do-list. But to be fair, they are domestic applicants.

Starting to get annoyed with SLO not getting back to me im starting to miss deadlines for other colleges -.-

I understand your feeling. let’s hope for the best!

Another outage tonight, so maybe they feel like sending out decisions after it? But in all honesty I am not really expecting to hear anything until April 1 at this point.

Hello everyone. In this thread someone mentioned that the completion of IGETC, CSU GE won’t make you competitive during the admissions process but in another thread someone mentioned that it is important to get IGETC, CSU GE as well as the major prep classes completed before applying to maximize your chances of getting in. Does anyone know which one is correct? I’m planning on transferring in 2018.

@Vitaemint I believe it depends on your major. For example: Computer Engineering, they do not expect transfer student to finish all of the general education. On their website, it says “Applicants will receive consideration for any General Education courses completed, but it is not expected that transfer students to this major will have full completion of all GE-Breadth or IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum) requirements. English Composition and Speech are mandatory requirements.”
