Thank you for your reply. My major is Statistics and on the website it says that students who completed GE or IGETC will receive maximum consideration in this catergory. I have another question. When I went to talk to a counselor at my school, we planned out which classes I will have to take to transfer to SLO. However, she based it off only from the assist website. What confused me is that on the actual Cal Poly website, it says that they require only one computer science class to transfer, whereas on the assist website it says I have to take 4. I’m going to bring this up to my counselor. Does this mean I only have to take the classes stated on the Cal Poly website?
I strongly urge you to look at the most recent SLO catalog and see which courses are required for your major. Don’t rely on ASSIST and your counselor for those details

@Vitaemint Assist website provide you all of the transferable courses between your Community College and SLO. It does not necessary mean that you need to take all of the courses. And if you check on Assist website, they also mention that “It is essential that students considering transferring to Cal Poly SLO first
review major-specific Transfer Selection Criteria located at: http://admissions.calpoly.edu/applicants/transfer/criteria.html”
Here’s the link to the catalog for BS Statistics… http://catalog.calpoly.edu/collegesandprograms/collegeofsciencemathematics/statistics/bsstatistics/
This should help you figure it out. Looks like for the BS you you need to choose 4 units of computer support coursework…but then it also say you have to choose 12 units of lower div and 12 units of upper div STATS courses (some of which include computer science choices). So your counselor may be telling you to take more than one computer science class to help you be more competitive… You are right…in that the Cal Poly selection criteria requires only 1 .
@calmom17 @FishoMath Thank you for your answers. I dont want to take all 4 computer science classes at my community college prior to transferring to SLO if only one is required. However, would you recommend only taking the one listed on the transfer selection criteria or taking more to increase my chances? I’m asking this because it seems like my counselor isn’t really experienced with helping students transferring to SLO.
Hey everyone. Reposting because I made it through the review process & I said I would update.
Admitted
Major: Materials Engineering
Current College: Ventura College
IGETC: Missing 1
Major Prep: No statics, circuits/l, materials lab
GPA: 3.2
ECs: MESA, SHPE, internship, community service
@calmom17 excellent advice
@solosix How do they indicate that the review process is complete and that your schedule changes have been approved?
I guess that means as long as you pass all in progress classes and maintain your GPA, you are guaranteed final acceptance?
@lankysequoia I very diligently but non-abrasively maintained steady contact with an admissions advisor via email. Kind of a softened squeaky wheel approach. Bear in mind, I have no idea if that influenced anything, but that’s how the completion of the review process was indicated to me - a return email to my…8th e-mail sent. & there are two consecutive emails in there somewhere from when I doubled up (apologetically) b/c she didn’t answer.
When do people start getting admission decisions?
Most decisions were released a while ago
@CarlosBenites Most have heard back within the last month. I did speak to admissions yesterday and they said that if you haven’t heard back yet you will by April 1st, so 10 more days, I myself have not heard back either.
@Jaximus it does not sound good for me if most have gotten admission decisions already…
@CarlosBenites I just called Cal Poly Admissions and the advisor told me that they are not done sending out acceptances yet. Its 50/50 for anyone who hasn’t received a decision yet. Good luck!
Does anyone know the reason of delay?
@instantvizion thanks for the info!!! The wait is so nerve wracking!
3/22 Checked at 7:00 p.m. After a long period of waiting I have received my denial for bus-admin info systems. Bummed
I checked after reading @Jaximus and I’m bummed as well. I had a 4.0 overall in both major and GE. I had Fin Acctg in progress at time of applying and had Managerial Acctg and Business Law planned for the spring.
Is it worth appealing? I have the GPA, but I guess that they would rather have wanted me to complete some major prep prior to applying. I told them 2 months ago that I wouldn’t be getting the ADT, but I would have the major prep done. It’s only b/c I took regular calc, not applied. Applied works for ADT, not regular.
LOL. I have a Calc II test tomorrow and an Oceanography test after that. RIP, haha.
