Then CSU GPA must be capped because when I plug in 10-11th grade into rogerhub, it’s 4.6 (16/26 semesters are AP).
From the CSU GPA Calculator,
The maximum number of honors courses you can use is eight semesters. No more than two approved honors-level courses taken in the 10th grade may be given extra points. Do not enter any count for honors courses with a grade of D or below. Enter one for each semester of approved honors work up to a maximum count of eight.
I concur! It’s a great community and super helpful resource!
Has anyone heard for back for CHILD DEVELOPMENT?
Hint: To search this discussion thread for specific majors, click on the magnifying glass on the upper right corner. Select search this topic and type in a key word.
A few applicants waiting to hear but no one on CC has posted an acceptance for Child Development. You might want to check other social media sites.
Which other media sites do you suggest?
Reddit is very popular with students.
Son did, after getting waitlist from UCD yeasterday. in-state…
Message for new mustang family (from parent’s FB page):
Unlike most schools, Cal Poly does not charge an acceptance fee to confirm that your student has accepted their offer of admission. The only thing a student needs to do to accept their offer is to go into their my.calpoly.eduportal and click “Accept”. Your student has until May 1 to accept their offer of admission, but there are some things like housing signups that can’t be done until admission is accepted, so if your student knows that Cal Poly is the place for them, they should go ahead and click accept when they’re ready.
Your student MUST check their email regularly. Email is the primary means through which Cal Poly communicates, and until around August when your student’s Cal Poly email is activated they will communicate through the email that your student used for their CSUApply application. And Cal Poly will communicate directly with your student, not with their parents, due to privacy laws. With very few exceptions, all info about signups, key deadlines, etc, will be sent ONLY to your student by email and not to their parents. Cal Poly considers students to be adults (whether they’re quite ready or not), so this is a biggie. And this probably goes without saying, but when your student receives an email with instructions and deadlines, they need to follow them. Unlike high school, they aren’t going to get a bunch of reminders, and missing deadlines can be painful. When there are key dates, we’ll often post them on this parent page, so we can help each other know what’s coming up.
Signups for housing will open on April 6, and students will sign up through their portals. All incoming first year students are guaranteed (and required) to have on-campus housing. The housing fields will appear a few days after students accept their offer of admission. Initial signups will require a $500 deposit for housing and a $1,000 for dining. Students will have until June 1 to submit and make any changes to their housing/dining applications, including changing the housing “themes” they select or adding roommates. The priority for selecting their dorm room is determined by random lottery.
Many students like to get new computers when they start college. Some majors at Cal Poly require students to use certain software programs that run best on Mac or PC. Before you spend money to buy something new, it’s a good idea to have your student check with their major department to ask whether a particular type of computer is preferred. Departments are more than happy to answer those questions from their future students.
Cal Poly has a mandatory 2-part orientation program for new students, including SLO Days (a 2-day session selected from many possible dates in July and August) and WOW (a week-long session occurring immediately after Fall move-in). Your student will need to register and pay for these programs by August, but earlier is better if you have a preferred date for your SLO Days session. The weekend sessions sell out. Student attendance is mandatory (Fall athletes are sometimes exempt - check with the coach), and there are also optional parent sessions offered for SLO Days (but not WOW) for an additional fee.
It’s up to your student to send their AP scores to Cal Poly by July 15, if they’ve taken AP exams and would like to receive credit or placements based on them. That doesn’t happen automatically, and Cal Poly won’t reach out to CollegeBoard to request them. You have to request scores to be sent through the College Board site. AP scores can only help (not hurt) a student. Cal Poly gives credit for most scores of 3 or better, so don’t hesitate to send them in.
My daughter found out she got in for Biology last night. The acceptance email was in Spam.
4.0/4.9 GPA
Language immersion, almost all honors/AP classes
Not a ton of clubs, EC’s but she will have 16 varsity letters when she graduates (3 sport athlete)
She really prefers environmental science major now…anybody know if she can change or transition to it while there?
Changing majors from the College of Science and Mathematics to a major in the College of Agriculture, Food and Env Sci is easier and than visa versa. You have to attend SLO for 1 quarter before initiating the change of major paperwork.

No admits to software engineering, computer engineering, or electrical engineering? Seems odd.
What about computer science ?
@meredifer No change of major to computer science. I do not see restrictions for the other Engineering majors except for CS and SE. These majors are highly impacted and have had restrictions on change of major for a while.
Correction - did see electrical but not computer or software.
I did see CS admits.
They are stating that CS will not accept change of majors from all students with exception of students whom were originally admitted into SE/CompE or GE).
I guess we are talking about 2 different things such as admission decisions vs. change of major policies.
My son got in OOS for software engineering he is thrilled he also got UC Davis but Cal spiky won his heart he loves the learn by doing USC was his first choice he got deferred Cal Poly was his second choice we are thankful as there are so many talented applicants .
