My son just received his rejection notice, FYI.

Thank you for posting that. I appreciate it, and sorry for the disappointing news. I am expecting the same news unfortunately.

Same. My son is fine, he has other options, but I wish they would change this process. It just drags it on and emotionally, these kids are already so fragile during this time!

I guess it’s just a lottery? We are in state residents. He has a 4.0 GPA with a few AP classes. Athlete as well. Applied for business program. Now he has picked Baylor University that is really far away from us.

Nice post. I think this includes the market outcome of all majors. Market outcome is one of the main reasons (not the only reason) applicants prefer to enroll in Cal Poly SLO upon multiple acceptances.

If we compare the market outcome of past 2 decades of CS Cal Poly SLO then it stands out really above. For instance public data provided below of 2 years CS Alumni and in comparison to UCs. Similar data is available for 5, 10 and 15 years and irrespective of the number of years Cal Poly SLO is always in top 3 in comparison to UCs.

A). Freshman Alumni 2 years CS Alumni 75 Percentile Salary Ranking
A1. UCLA Freshman Alumni 2 years CS Alumni 75 Percentile salary
A2. UCB Freshman Alumni 2 years CS Alumni 75 Percentile salary

Wow! Where can I find that data for other majors… looking at business.

Did the rejection include how many applicants?

Son received rejection notification this am as well

I’m sorry to hear. It could be because Business is one of the most applied to majors at SLO. Looks like over 7,000 applications per year, and they can only admit 1,500 or 1,600 (assuming about a third of the admits accept the offer to get them to the targeted number of freshmen they want to enroll for Business). You can see the data here. Hopefully that helps him put it in perspective. Baylor is a great school! https://content-calpoly-edu.s3.amazonaws.com/ir/1/images/NOT%20ADJUSTED_AGGREGATE%20-%202022-23%20Enrollment%20Projections.pdf

No, I don’t think so

My second daughter will not apply to SLO for 2025. This process was unnecessary. They should have released the vast majority of rejections earlier.

They look at other factors too.

I agree, my student got in, but I think they should release the rejection sooner. Not 3 weeks after the first wave.

SLO isn’t the only one that prologs the agony.

Last year one student compiled this data to convince his parents and counselors while SIR in Cal Poly SLO out of multiple acceptances from UCs and other prestigious institutions universities .

For other majors like Business one needs to compile data from UC and CSU sites into one report to compare the outcome. The data is available in different formats and reports like tableau and more.

However, Cal Poly does a good job every year to provide data in general by college available below.

You know it is probably for the best. The recent crush at all the state schools in CA I fear does not bode well for the educational environment at these schools in the near future. I thought the UC system was overcrowded 25 years ago, and now with CSU’s like Cal Poly having massive impaction, he will likely have a much better life and educational experience at Baylor.

My son was denied by SLO today. Bummer, but he still has some great options.

Some stats: Denied In-state for Business
Unweighted GPA: 3.8, Weighted: 4.3
6-7 AP Course (+ AP Test scores of 4-5)
Some volunteer, extra-curriculars, work experience (lifeguarding). Not much sports.
Accepted at: UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC Santa Cruz, San Diego State, and Long Beach State.
Denied by: Cal Poly, UCLA, and UC Irvine
Waitlisted at: UC San Diego
Still waiting to hear from: UC Berkeley (we’ll know later today I believe)

To everyone going to SLO this Fall, congratulations! It really is a great school.

Yeah, D23 got the anticipated rejection today. She was prepared but still stings.

Also just really piling onto the anxiety and stress for these kids releasing rejections same day as Cal/Ivy decisions. Kinda heartless IMO.
