Calculus prereq QS.

Hi there. So i posted about academic renewal a few days ago but this is different. I took pre cal 3 times and got Ds each time(yes I wasn’t serious about this class its my mistake). This is my second year in CC. So in august i talked to the math head and asked her to allow me to challenge the pre req and take calc 1 as thats the first math class that counts towards my major(Computer Science). Now i am taking it and will hopefully pass it( aiming for a B). I’m planning on doing academic renewal on my pre cal grades as the last time i took it was a few months ago in the summer semester and Academic renewal for my college district states to have 15 units done and to allow a year of 1 year to pass since the last substandard grade (to be negated) was taken (a year will pass in summer 2016). So my 2 questions are

  1. Will my Ds be negated from my GPA and will the UCs trip about me not getting pre cal done?
2.Pre cal is not a prereq for my major nor a class for my major. My majors math starts from Calculus 1.

Just wanted to know if they will trip or not if i apply/TAG?
I know its long But I’d really appreciate your guy’s help.
    Thank you in advance!
(Side Note: i have seen people challenege math classes in summers e.g. Calc 1 and two together and Ace them both with As).

Once you pass Calc 1, you’re fine. Don’t worry about pre-Calc. Calc 1 overrides anything previous. However, as you said, the grades stay so you need to get that squared away.

TAG won’t be affected as long as your GPA is the TAG minimum and you don’t get any other Ds.

Oh thats amazing. So will the lre cal grades be negated from my gpa once i do academic renewal? And will it say AR next to “Pre cal” once it is done?? Btw thank you for your help! @lindyk8

yes, they will be negated.

Btw if you plan on tagging to UCD you should check their guidelines for next year, CS is now selective and you’ll need a 3.0 average GPA (in addition to the 3.2 overall UC-transferable) in the Calc + CS series.

@napapapa yes i checked that a few days ago but thanks! So it basically means that my averagegrades should be Bs in these two course series? Like if i( God forbid) get a C in one class ill have to get an A in another along Bs in the rest of the classes to qualify?
Btw i saw one of your posts and read you are also transferring(TAg) to davis from Laney/BCC(peralta district). I wanted to know if you TAGed and did you take Python(CIS 61) C++(Cis 25) and Microassembly(cis 20) to fullfill you computer science classes requirements? Because thats what i am planning on doing so i can TAG next fall.
Thank You

Yeah man, hopefully you don’t get a C though. Yeah I tagged, CIS 61 can fulfill Davis’ ECS 60 requirement, but CIS 27 also does as well (I would recommend actually taking a Data Structures class to fulfill it before you transfer, rather than CIS61). CIS 61 is very easy, taught in Python and the teacher allows you to not really show up to class until you have to present your project or whatever at the end of the semester. I haven’t taken CIS25 in that system but if you do, do not take it with Nguyen, who is notoriously a bad teacher. I’d take CIS20 next semester but they aren’t offering it so I’ll take that and Discrete Math my first semester when I transfer. Assembly doesn’t factor into the course group GPA I was telling you about for computer science btw, only Discrete Math, Intro to Programming, and OOP does… which equate to Davis’ ECS 20-30-40. Good luck with everything dude, the support for CS students at Davis seems great.

Thanks for all your help! Ill be sure to plan out my cis classes. I got a “B” in Intro to programming (taught in C++). Good luck at davis!
