raises hand as a minority Do you think that'll actually make any difference? Where do most of the people who apply come from? Anyone know if YESS admission is at all based upon regional location or....? SO MANY QUESTIONS STILL UNANSWERED!!!

I'm guessing minorities have a better chance, but they way the website comes off doesn't really imply that to me...there used to be an RSI at Caltech also, but I think it had low funding.....so again I'm guessing that they are using this program for everyone not just minorities.

i applied from NY if that helps any :)

I wish at least I could countdown the days until I find out whether I got in... GAH!, CalTech doths deny me the oppurtunity for self-induced anxiety for a specific date! lol

well I would think someone from Iowa is more likely than NY cuz Iowa has like a couple million ppl althogether and not many from here are gonna apply....but then again it depends on if they think we are qualified or not

That's probably true Isingh - especially if you are one of (im guessing) few minorities in Iowa ..
Oiii, please Caltech look favorably on an East-Coaster :D
(although if i dont get in here, I will be off to the Harvard SSP ^_^)

Harvard SSP is fun! lol I did it last year. It isn't gonna get you much as for college admissions and such, but it is a great experience. You get a true taste of freedom...at least from high school its a lot better.

I guess I am a minority in Iowa, but considering I live in a college town and am priveleged enough to take classes there, I probably won't count as a minority...I just think there are less people from Iowa that would apply that NY.

If I don't get in here...well my first choice is to work/research in a lab at Iowa State, but that depends if any professors are willing to help me. I am going to do an internship in the fall anyways so it wont kill me if I don't get someone's help, but I really just want to research. If I get into Yess I could do both since Yess isn't so long. I doubt I have a chance though.

Do you think applying from Nevada would make me a minority (hence, beneficial for my application)? I hope so!

Isingh: what type of research are you doing?

um...i have no idea specifically...but its either really bio related such as genetics or physics/astronomy related...i have to wait and find out meh :(

I doubt the state that we apply from matters as much as our ethnicity and how much we need the program....obviously if we have previous experience in the subjects, they won't accept us.

really? if we DONT have past experience, we have an advantage?
that's almost the best news ive heard .. in an hour :)

ahah i mean if you have a lot of experience in researching you will be somewhat overqualified because this program seems like it will give us background knowledge of the subjects rather than giving us researching experience or something

Well that's good news for me!

Hey guys, I went to YESS back in 2003. It was pretty awesome. Good luck to everyone. I might end up seeing some of you guys, I applied to be a counselor this summer.

Hey jtiger08, nice for a former YESSman to drop by! Would you like to share some experiences of the programs or if you have knowledge as to when the accept/rejection letters are sent...?

i second that question jakor :D

Emails received today... How'd everyone do?

sigh Rejected....

I got in :] Shockingly enough...

I'm not going, though. I must be in a lab, so I will (probably) be attending another program. My brother told me to stick to YESS, though. He thinks it is very competitive and will look good on my college apps. (Conflicted a bit now...) Personally, I just want to be in a lab and do some more work on radiation.

Congrats to all those who will be attending. I'm sure you'll have a blast! :]
