CALTECH YESS Summer Program 2009

yeah. i agree… what do u think your chances of getting in are??
I think im ok…but my essay…uhh…well lets just say …it was not the best ive done…

I’m from Bethlehem, PA, less than an hour north of Philly and like 5 minutes from Allentown! :)

Not good, on the same boat about the essay. But I’m a minority, so I guess I’m kinda like the target for this kind of program. Still though, 750+ applicants, so the odds are kind of against everyone.

Alright we got 2 Californians, an Oregonian(is that how you say it?), and a Pennsylvanian(I might have messed that up). Anyone else here at the moment?

yeah 750 …4%… =(
Well keep your fingers crossed… =)

yup… oregonian… =)

I’m from New Jersey…anyone else?

Dammit, I keep refreshing my email inbox and I always think its the Caltech decision but its really myspace leaving me reminders that I have a new comment.

hahahaha same. I had like a heart attack earlier when i got a notification reminder from facebook via email!

hahahahaha… you guys are funnny!!!
thats happening to me too…about the email reminders…
but i have soccer practice in a bit so ill have to leave…hopefully i get it before so im very happy and not nervous …but then again…what if it’s bad? then ill be sad …

Maybe you should go to soccer practice without checking your email and then check back after you are done. But even if you’re rejected, you shouldn’t feel bad, I mean in all likelihood most of us here will be rejected. And it’s next year when it really counts.

anyone else here get into other summer programs? like MITES/SSP/RSI

I think I agree with mikester0904 about checking back after practice because, no offense, but the chance of disappointment is so much higher than that of jubilation!

yeah i guess your right…(about feeling bad) but i was/ am REALLY looking forward to it… well, who knows maybe were that 4%…lol

SSP reject here. Applied to MITES too. Haven’t gotten response yet, but probably rejected.

well i guess you guys are right… =) thanks…
im off to practice!!
TTYL!!

I have been following this blog and have enjoyed it incognito. I will do my turn now and let you know that my son just received a rejection. Here is what it
said:
Thank you for your application to the 2009 Caltech YESS program. We have completed our application review period and we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you a space in this year’s program.

Admission to the YESS program was significantly competitive this year. The program received a record number of over 750 applications. Unfortunately, we do not have space to admit all highly qualified candidates. Additionally, very few sophomores were selected.

As a sophomore, we encourage you to continue to pursue your interest in science and engineering and to consider applying for admission to the YESS program next year. Application information for summer 2010 will be available in November on the program’s web site – [Young Engineering and Science Scholars](http://yess.caltech.edu)

We wish you the best in your future plans.

Sincerely,

Alright guys, fingers crossed and good luck everyone. Sorry about your son tumsifu, but at least he gets another shot at it next year.
