Hi, I just got a letter saying that I've been selected to become a member of the Campuswide Honors Program (CHP) and wanted to start a thread so that other people can post about it.
I don't know much about it but it supposedly isn't an offer of admission, right?

My son got this letter via regular mail today. The letter says “Admission to the Campuswide Honors Program is contingent upon your admission to the university.” So it’s not a formal letter of acceptance to UCI. But can we assume that chances are high that one will be coming next month?

Hey guys does this mean CHP=acceptance to UCI?

Did you get an e-mail as well?

It was a one page letter received via USPS today. There was no email.

Thanks @yoamogates

I don’t ‘know’ what it was, but I would think it was like a likely letter. If they are saying you are one of the top students, it would be odd to later be told you were not accepted – whether it is a formal offer of acceptance or not.

Congratulations to those who got these!

I got the letter today! No email.

Thank you to the UC Irvine staff for making me feel better about myself after not getting UCLA/Berkeley Regents. I knew from the start that those were long shots, but I still got my hopes up a little too high…

The letter mentioned something along the lines of “admission to CHP is contingent upon admission to the University” so I do not believe that receiving the letter equates to acceptance (similar to UCLA regents). However, as collegevetting said, why would you be identified as a “top applicant” and then not be accepted? Seems unlikely that more than a few people a year would get CHP but not be accepted.

I got one too. They said they would send out an email later on regarding some event related to this.
I don’t know if this is just a generic letter they send out to most students and they only make it out to sound “special” and whatnot, or if it’s legitimately a mark of your chances at UCI.

Getting the letter means that you are accepted into the Campuswide Honors Program at UCI.

Using 2013’s numbers, 5460 students decided to attend the university, and only ~160 of those entered the CHP program. Now, chances are that a lot more than 160 people get the invitation. I’d guess it’s around 1000-2000, because being in the top of Irvine’s applicant pool means that you have a very good chance of getting into Berkeley, UCLA, and other top schools that you might choose to matriculate at instead (just like how a lot of people who get Berkeley/UCLA Regents often end up getting into and going to Ivy League schools).

I’d be interested to see stats on how many people are invited and how many actually choose to attend. Regardless, I’m pretty sure the letter isn’t send out to the vast majority of applicants.

Just checked my admissions status and it says “congratulations!” although it never explicitly states the word “accepted” on the site. I’m just going to make my assumptions. Never got a single email on my status, so A+ notification system.

It doesn’t say “You have been admitted to UC Irvine!” in big letters above “Congratulations!”?

It says:
Congratulations!
Your deadline is 05/01/2014 to:

Accept our offer of Admission (SIR)

Apply for housing
(Freshman Housing Guarantee deadline is May 1, NO EXCEPTIONS.)

Submit your Statement of Legal Residence (SLR)

Or decline our offer of admission

And then it small font it says: (I missed it earlier bc of the tiny af font lol)
You have been admitted with Freshman Conditions – View your Freshman Conditions"

No obvious & obnoxious “you’ve been accepted” or anything though. And nothing in large font that would immediately tell me so.

Look again… My son’s says “You have been admitted to UC Irvine!” in bold letters and large font in the section above where you currently see Congratulations! Your deadline is…

Ah, okay. I logged in again and there’s a banner now.
But if I just press the backspace bar a few times, I can see the page I was looking at previously and there was no banner.

I got one too! I am so thankful.

So around how many applicants get this letter? 1000-2000?

Just got accepted to UC Irvine and Berkeley (Regents)! Good luck, everyone! :)

I got a letter in the mail today! It tells you to check the portal and there, it tells you that you’ve been accepted.
I thought the huge “You’ve been accepted” banner was an advertisement at first, but yepp I figured that one out eventually lol

@annel96 , did you get an email notification from Berkeley? And also, have you applied to UCLA & heard back from them yet?
