Alright, so I received a letter in October about being a candidate for CHP at Irvine, but I haven't heard anything since then. Does anyone have anymore info about the program and when/if I can expect to hear about it again?

As I recall, you receive your invitation for CHP with your admission offer; some folks receive the invitation later (presumably when some of the initial invitees decline their admission offer).

I assume you've checked out the program's website. If not, look here:
University of California, Irvine - Campuswide Honors Program

Ya, I saw the site and it said prospectives should look for invites around mid Feb, which is soon. I was just wondering how accurate the site was, since I didn't see a log saying when it was last updated. And from what you said about it coming with the decision, I'm confused. (BTW, I'm ELC, if that makes any difference.)

Well, the site says late February, and the invitation is contingent on offer of admission (which seems a tad odd). A few years ago, my son's invitation came with the admission offer... guess they've changed things (or he wasn't in the first group of invitations).

I guess they invite their top applicants (which you might be, given that you're ELC) even before admission offers are made. I hope you'll be hearing from them in a few more weeks.

My D received a 'Save-the-Date' e-mail with an invite to an open house next month. The e-mail said further info forthcoming in ~2 weeks.

Wow... early start this year. Thanks for clearing things up, bluebayou.

Thanks, MaMoose!

And thanks, blue, for clearing that up.

If I got the CHP invite email, does it mean I'm in?

^ I think it means you're one of the top applicants. You're not officially invited until you're officially invited to attend UCI.

if you get a CHP invite, you are in.

well anyone who is ELC definitely is in since UCI accepts all ELC applicants who are UC eligible.

Blue, my understanding is that ELC kids aren't guaranteed in for all majors.
The letter I got said: "You are guaranteed admission into UC Irvine in most majors and we strongly encourage you to apply"
But yes, most ELC kids will get in to UCI, even for the impacted majors.

^ There's a list of majors that are impacted, and therefore not guarenteed, at the bottom of the ELC letter from UCI. If you got the letter, you already know if you're guarenteed based on what major you applied as.

oops, forgot about specialized and impacted majors....my bad.

^ No need to apologize, we all err once in a while.

Soooooooo, it's mid-February.

I too received the "save the date" email, but not yet the official RSVP. It would be nice to plan a trip from way up north knowing the schedule. My mail did not say details would come in mid-Feb or anything, just "soon". Does anyone know how important it is to attend Irvine Honors Experience Day? Would you get information not available on the web and on a general visit? Would it help in choosing a UC campus if offered more than one? Thanks...

I'm still waiting....

Irvine has sent me two emails. This one, and something reminding me to submit the FAFSA, which I had submitted already.

Seriously Irvine? You have to be kidding me.

^ Ya, this is seriously ****ing me off.

nan2- I would definitely encourage you to go to Honors experience day...many chp'ers say that it was essential in choosing to attend.

Just for reference, the email I got from Irvine last year notifying me of the decision was sent Friday, Feb 15, 2008 at 3:01 AM, so I'd guess you'll know very shortly.

^ Thanks for the info. What are you majoring in? Did you use your housing privileges or did you decide on staying in one of the regular dorms?
