Can CAS students take classes in Medill

Hi,

I'm pre-med but i would also like to take some journalism classes, is that allowed?

There are a few journalism classes for non-majors, but if you really like journalism it’s not that difficult to major in journalism and also fulfill the pre-med requirements. I’ve heard of people doing it.

(Sorry for not providing an answer to your question, but I have a similar question myself) :

I’m planning to double major in journalism and something in the College of Arts and Sciences, so is it okay if I apply to CAS instead of Medill and then if I get in, I can still major in journalism?

No, I’d apply to Medill. It can be very hard to transfer into Medill, but no problem to add a double major in wcas.

but i dont wanna major in journalism lol, i justed wanted to take some classes of fun :)

Is it a lot harder to get into Medill than CAS, though? At this point, I just want to get into Northwestern, and I’m not even positive if I want to be a journalist when I grow up.

@over haha sorry misread the question. Medill kids get pre-registration so any good journalism class will likely get filled up, although its probably possible to register for them. But also because of prerequisites you cant just register for any 300 level journalism class like you might be able to in, say, poli sci.

@candy. They are all fairly equally hard to get into, but you have your best shot at what your essays/extracuriculars/etc, line up with. So I wouldn’t apply to Medill if you never worked on a school publication and your essay says you love science. And if you arent serious about journalism, (many of my medill grad friends arent journalists now) then you can still go that way.
