Can credit be counted toward two majors?

For example, Math 451 could be used as credit in both the math and stats concentrations. If i take the course, would the credit count toward both majors, essentially counting it twice?

hmm....i believe taking a course like that would count towards fufulling your requirements in both concentrations, but you don't get 6 or 8 credits.

The school will have specific policies on this. Generally speaking, if it's a lower division core requirement, yes it will count, and if it's an upper division distribution credit it most likely will not.

Definitely consult both departments about how it works, but I think that if the requirements are the same for both classes, they would double count. I'm an aerospace engineering major and I know many people double major in mechanical engineering, because there are only a few different classes between the two majors -- and thus double counting is a major perk.

So it seems the general consensus is that a given course may satisfy required courses for two majors (For example, Math 215 or EECS 183 in both math and stats majors), but a class that could be taken as elective concentration-related credit would not count toward both (such as Math 451 in math and stats)?
