Can Freshmen dorm at Campus Village?

So i was looking at the dorming options at UCI and i really like Campus Village. I checked on the "Where can i live link?" on their website and i put in "freshmen" and it said that i was only eligible for the Residence halls which are a little too expensive for me. So i was wondering if freshmen could live in CV their first year?

No. Undergraduates can no longer live in CV. It is in the process of being converted into graduate housing.

if you are a freshman, why not live in the dorms (Mesa Court? or Middle Earth?-but I recommend mesa, its more social)?

Once upon a time you could. I spent a year practically living at CV.

Consider some of the apartments through the Irvine company. You should actually be able to negotiate the rent down. I was in a 2 bedroom apartment for around $1900 a month. 2 guys/room and 1 in the living room netted an average per person cost of $380/person + utilities. If you hit on the attractive girls upstairs, you should be able to get their wifi password.

If money is a concern, I highly suggest getting a SOLID paid internship. I know some people who were getting around $20/hour at places such as Broadcom and Johnson & Johnson. Make yourself competitive for it. Major doesn’t matter a ton as long as it’s somewhat relevant. Have a high GPA. Have some leadership experience through clubs. Have some preexisting internships even if they were done for free. I was part of the Undergraduate Finance Association. That was a positive environment. If you’re in biology… look for equivalent opportunities, the same ideas apply. I’d suggest doing 2 hours of interview practice per month since this will pay dividends over time.

Good luck and I hope you make the best of your time at UCI. Have fun.

I’m late to this thread, but I wanted to post because there’s misinformation in it.

Yes undergraduates, including freshmen, can live in Campus Village. I will be living there as a freshmen this fall. It was offered to me as a housing choice earlier this year.

I did read that they are in the process of converting it to graduate housing, but that piece was dated in 2011, and I’ve seen nothing more recent. However, in that 2011 piece, UCI made it clear that undergraduates would still be allowed to live there during said conversion. That part I can attest to.

What I would like to know is if the conversion to graduate housing is still on? I would like to stay there for a long as possible for obvious reasons: close on campus housing with all utilities included w/o having to buy a meal plan.

$1900/month + utilities is a lot more than $380/month for 4 people. I’m not giving my wifi password to ANYONE. Seriously, MINE.
