Can HS grades be part of an "upward" trend?

I didn't do so well in high school. Although I never failed a class, I got a lot of C's in classes like English and math. My GPA when I graduated was an overall 2.7. I went to CC with the intent to turn things around and get into a top-tier UC. My GPA so far (at CC) is a 3.5. I realize that's below average for a competative major at UCLA, but I want to show the adcoms that I indeed do have an upward trend. Will they look at my high school grades and if not, can I show them? Thanks.

No, the UC adcoms don’t ever take high school grades into consideration… nor can they, because you don’t send in your high school transcripts until after you’re admitted.

Sending them in early to help your case also wouldn’t be allowed, much like sending in letters of recommendation isn’t allowed. They weigh all applicants based on the same criteria; it wouldn’t be fair to take in extra factors that may help one applicant but not another.

Your GPA is good enough to get you into a competitive major, just make sure you truly shine in your ECs/ work experience.

Good Luck!

I don’t see why you couldn’t mention it in your personal statement if you can relate it to the prompts.
