I'm a senior in high school, and am taking 4 AP classes (and two non-weighted, non a-g classes) this semester. Would it be acceptable if I dropped one of my AP classes (French 5 AP), or do I have to graduate with the same GPA I was accepted into colleges with? Do UC's have a GPA requirement after you've been accepted other than just maintaining a passing grade in all your classes?

Ask the admissions offices of the schools you’re applying to. Usually they’re okay with it as long as you notify them.

As for GPA after you’re accepted, they can rescind your application if you screw up completely, but usually won’t care if it slips a little bit.

The UCs vary a bit, but its more than “just maintaining a passing grade in all your classes”. Typically they require a weighted B average and no grades below a C. They may also have a cap on the number of C grades, and some campuses use the unweighted average.

As for dropping French, be aware that you are required to notify the campuses where you applied if you change your schedule from that listed on your application (or if you drop a class during the semester). Will dropping French 5 affect you? That’s a matter of opinion; I personally have no idea.

I would check the foreign language requirement at your target schools. Many release you from the req. if you score 4-5 on AP exam. Sticking it out for one more semester could save you several quarters or semesters of repeating the French.

I don’t intend to take French in college. I basically just decided to take it this year because it’s an AP class, but it ended up being seventh period. So now I have a 2-7 period schedule instead of a 1-5, which means I get out 2 hours later than I was supposed to, just because that class is seventh period. Who would I call at each college? Just the admissions offices? Should I get something in writing that verifies it’s okay if I drop it?
