Can I get into Rutgers NB/Other NJ schools

1840 SAT 660 math 580 reading 610 writing 11 essay
2.5 GPA freshman 2.6 GPA sophmore 3 GPA junior
120 hours community service
Played Football
Worked as a Lifeguard
Im taking the SAT again in oct and im confident im getting a 2000+
Im a male and looking to go into the nursing program.

What are my chances at getting into Rutgers, Montclair, Ramapo William Paterson, Seten Hall?

If anyone has any suggestions for out of state schools i will consider them but finances is also a problem for me so i don't want to pay extra for going out of state. I'm looking for a good school because I am actually going to study and get a degree for a career instead of slacking off. I also love to party but if that's the only thing to do then that University is not for me.

I only have 1 scheduled AP class next year but i can have 3. Will it really help my application if i have 3 AP's senior year, and is it too late to start joining clubs. I also barely studied for the SAT and I am confident if i study i can get a 2000+. Will these things be worth it or will it be too little to late.

im a new jersey resident so heres your chances…rutgers nb no, but theres still camden and newark. montclair and ramapo are a reach but you may still get in. youre safe for willy p and seton hall.

i would strongly suggest starting off at a community college, even if only for a semester, then transferring to rutgers NB. do this especially if you need to save money. if you get your associates, you can transfer with the NJ Stars program and you can get your last two years at Rutgers for free or something like that. check it out. you need to maintain a certain GPA though.

dont be afraid of the community college stigma. its actually a really smart thing to do if you want to save a lot of money and/or cant get into a good school right out of high school

Well your SATs are ok, not fantastic but can definitely get you into RU NB. Your GPA is awful though, I’m sorry but it is really bad. For RU NB you should at least have like a 3.4 to get in.
How many years have you played Football? It only benefits you if you played 3 or 4 years. Working as a lifeguard is seen as a cushioned job that doesn’t require much in the eyes of admission officers so that is of no help. The community service hours don’t add anything either. Plenty of kids do hundreds of hours each year or a 100 a month.
At Montclair you have a much better chance. Same with Ramapo. Seton Hall you have a better chance than RU NB, but not a fantastic chance. I don’t think taking AP courses will help you because guessing from your GPA, your grades will be C’s in those so they will not benefit you.
If I were you I would have spent less time partying and more time studying because if you performed better you could have gotten scholarships to schools, but with your grades that is not going to happen.
I live in NJ, have my whole life and am an RU diehard. Basically everyone in my family who has gone to college has gone to RU NB. In my mind if I were I would think about RU Newark or Camden. As well as Kean. Also try the programs at community colleges. As stated above you could save and get a lot of money from those programs.

The NJ STARS program only works if the student is in the top 15% of the class and then only about 6,000 per year is supplied. Averaging that the cost of RU for the 2011-2012 school year is 29,000 with room and board, fees, tuition, and a couple thousand for student spending, the STARS program does help, but not much.

Unfortunately, Rutgers (all campuses) is going to be ridiculously tough to get into because of your GPA.

Seton Hall accepts around 80% of applicants, so you have a very good chance, but South Orange personally creeps me out (though, the campus is fenced in).

All of the other schools on your list have a much lower acceptance rate, so tread carefully (a stellar essay will help your chances).

Look into Rider or maybe SJU (though the latter is private, it also accepts about 80% and is right outside NYC – you seem to have schools in more Northern Jersey).

I agree with the idea of going to a local community college for the first year, two years (depending upon the school, after a year + at a CC, your HS grades won’t be taken into consideration for acceptance). Your chances of getting into a good school will be much higher (including RU NB – which is very good – I currently go there, but I would like to transfer out of state soon) and the cost will be much less for your 4 years of undergrad.

GL!

Edit: As a side note, I did well in HS but still chose to go to a CC then transfer

Im a NJ resident and yes i do live in northern NJ very close to the city. Im thinking about going to BCC which i heard is a good school for a CC. Ill save around 50k by going there so i guess i should just do that.

Any CC with an Honors Program is an advantage, especially if you are able to be a part of that program and graduate with your Associates with Honors. Obviously the cost is much, much less as well.

Both Bergen and Brookdale have Honors
