I want to transfer to uic for spring of 2010.my gpa is a 2.8 and the field i want to study in is called college of liberal arts and science. The minimum gpa needed is a 2.5. My 1st semster i didn't do so well due to to personal problems, but after that episode I got nothing but a's and b's. I need 3 more classes by the time of enrollment for their spring semster which is in january. My personaly essay states who i am as a student and to the community i work for. My goals and how i plan on reaching them. explained how uic will be benifit me and my ideas of teaching for the literature of english. how i will show others the education i obtained at uic. Do i have a pretty good shot getting accepted if my fall grades continue to be a's and b's?

It is hard to say, but if your grades have improved, you might have a chance. You can always make an appointment with an admissions counselor.

what would the benefits be if i were to make an appointment with an admissions couselor?

They can give you the average GPA, etc from last year. Also, it is a plus on your file. It shows that you are interested in the college.

good point. should i bring a transcript with me when i see an uic admissions counselor?

There is no harm in bring it.

so just talk to an admissions couselor about my interest in uic on what it has to offer and how my grades will effect my chance on getting accepted?

As long as you bring your grades up, ideally above a 3.0, you shouldn’t worry too much. Colleges like to see upward grade trends and if you can maintain A’s and B’s for the upcoming semester, you should be set. I agree with Nova10, speaking with a counselor can help. It won’t make a huge difference, but the effort looks good and if it comes to choosing between you and another student with similar stats, that counselor visit will probably win the committee over. But that’s an extreme case, however, you never know!

When it comes to picking border line applicants, campus visits can win over the admissions committee. It is a plus.
