I am getting a D in first semester AP Calc in senior year and I’ve applied to several UC and CSU’s and I’m wondering if my application will get recinded from having this D. I’ve taken math every year in high school and I believe UC/CSU’s require 3 years of math but prefer a 4th. Should I contact the schools I applied to and let them know about the D and do I still have a chance of getting in?
you should contact the schools you applied to immediately and see what they say. You may have time and a few options presented to you. At the same time do everything you can to boost your grade. Recisions are handled on a case by case basis but in general - UCs want Cs or better in all your a-g classes Sr year. If the D sticks ,you will probably be bounced from the UCs who accept you. CSUs are probably OK with the D as long as your GPA doesn’t drop too much and you complete the A-G classes required.
Contact them now and get ahead of it.
Good luck
For the UC’s, you need to do the following:
If there are changes to your academic record…
Freshmen: If you change schools, add or drop a course, or fail to earn a C or better in a course after you submit your application, you must notify the UC Application Center by email or postal mail. Your correspondence must include your name, UC Application ID number and your signature (if you mail a letter), and will be available to all the campuses to which you applied.
If you receive an offer of admission, be sure to confirm with the campus admission office that they are aware of the deficient grade or schedule changes. Although you must notify the campus of these changes, we cannot guarantee that a campus can go back to review an application after correspondence has been received. Make sure to save a copy of your correspondence just in case.

For the CSU’s, you need to contact each school individually and find out your options. Some CSU’s may be more forgiving than others as stated by @NCalRent. I know SLO and SDSU specifically state that any grade below a C for any Senior class a-g or not could result in losing your acceptance.
In the meantime, do everything you can to make sure you get your grade up to a C- or higher. Ask for extra credit, find a tutor, work with your teacher…
Thank you for the responses you were both very helpful
