Can I still get into a great college?

I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was little. I love the sciences, read anatomy textbooks for fun, and can’t imagine myself going into any other profession. I’m in 9th grade and I’m 14 ( I skipped a grade) and my freshman year has been going horribly! I will end up with an approx. 2.2 GPA unweighted (I took 3 honors courses), and maybe a 2.5 if I can bring some grades up by June. The reason for this was family problems (my mom left), entering high school, a scheduling issue, and ending up in the hospital for nearly a month after I attempted suicide. I am catching up now, doing all my work etc… and I have an 90 average for most classes this semester, but it won’t even out the 65s and 70s! I’m taking AP Chemistry (I’m kinda excited since I LOVE all science) and AP world, along with Honors English and Honors Geometry next year, and I now I will be able to get all As… I plan on taking many AP classes and honors classes the next three years but even if I got all A’s the next three years, my overall GPA would only be approx. 3.4 unweighted! I know colleges like an upward trend, but even if I have great extracurriculars, and experiences ( I’m taking a CNA class that counts as high school credit in Junior year, and an EMT one in Senior year and I also volunteer at the hospital near my house. Could I get into a school like John Hopkins, Harvard, or Wellesley, or did my freshman grades doom me?

You honestly cannot chance a person for a college like JHU, Harvard, etc. because of the fact that admissions includes so much more than just grades. It will still affect your overall GPA, which obviously will be lower than the average for these schools. However, everyone deserves a second chance. It is good that this grade slip happened freshmen year rather than junior year. You truly will not know until you get your acceptance or rejection letter. My advice to you is to study hard and take classes seriously. Get amazing test scores and widen your E.Cs. Be involved! You might also have a chance to write an essay about how these struggles impacted you, but you overcame them. Best of luck to you.
