I just received my International Tuition Award notification from the University of Arizona. I haven’t taken my A Levels, so my predicted grades were submitted as part of my transcript (students don’t get to see their predicted grades). When I checked the award amount against the table on UA’s website, the corresponding GPA was much higher than what I thought my predicted grades would be. Does UA take rigor of the school into account when awarding these scholarships? Could my scholarship be rescinded if my actual A Level grades are below my predicted grades?
Yes, it can
thank you for your response! does the rigor of high school play a big part in the calculation of gpa for international students in this situation? I’m trying to figure out if my predicted grades were higher than I thought or if the award was due to the rigor of my high school.
The rigor of your HS is not considered when GPA is calculated. Your grades are.
But…are you sure the GPA in your country is converting to a lower GPA than what is needed here? For example…folks here from India have posted grades and they are some different scale than here. @CValle maybe you can elaborate on this.
Thank you for your reply!
My calculated gpa was in the 3.5-3.749 range, which I really can’t see my teachers giving me predicted grades that high. I read on another thread regarding the same scholarship that a student from Europe who got straight As had a calculated gpa way lower than she expected (http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/2071577-uofa-the-international-tuition-scholarship-i-got-is-smaller-than-the-website-says-i-shouldve-got.html#latest) , so I was wondering if UA does any “moderation” for internationals to derive the gpa used for scholarship consideration. UA’s CDS lists rigor of high school as “very important”, although that’s for admissions so I don’t know how that factors in here. I’m just trying to figure out if my award amount may be lowered, so I can strategize for the rest of the schools I’m applying to.
