History has shown that great leaders have contributed man great things for the world. They’ve given the people they’ve a led a person to look up to, and have advanced their group/ countries they’ve led.
History, however, also has shown that leaders can be corrupted by power, fame, and money. They are taken over by selfish desires rather than doing things that benefit the group as a whole. A good leader must always put the greater good of the group before themselves. If the leader bases their actions on what only benefits them, then the people led will soon become rebellious. If a leader wishes to be the face of the people they lead then they must be able to fulfil the desires of the people. If a leader is selfish or not altruistic, then it also means the people he/she leads will also be that way. In the few years before World War 2, political tension in Europe was rising and a man named Hitler was rising in power. Germany had suffered major losses during World War 1, and was in a horrible economic state. However, through Hitler’s fiery speeches, he was able to raise the people’s moral and the economic state of Germany. He however, also implied very anti-Semitic views towards the Jewish; blaming Germany’s problem on them. Soon the people of Germany also began to mistreat Jews.
A good leader must also be able to act under stressful/pressure filled situations. During economic or political tension, a leader must be able to respond in the appropriate way. The people might be shaken up, and might have lost hope. A leader must be able to keep the heads of the people high. During World War 2, America didn’t want to get involved in the Crisis in Europe. However, when the Japanese bombed pearl harbor, in the second deadliest terrorist attack on US soil, the US had no choice but to join the war. The mood in the US was a solemn one, as America had lost nearly 3000 lives, and hundreds of millions of dollars worth of ships and other military related equipment. However, when President Roosevelt appeared on the radio, his voice managed to soothe America. He gave hope to the people during a time of war.
A leader must be able to represent all that is good about the group. In order to that he/she must be able to make the correct decision under any circumstance. As well as put the wellbeing of others before themselves.
