Title: Is it important for people to spend time outdoors and learn to appreciate their natural environment?
It is important for people to spend time outdoors and to learn to appreciate their natural environment. Those who lose touch with nature and often make poor judgments regarding nature’s power. Jon Krakauer’s book Into Thin Air, Henry David Thoreau, and Shackleton’s book South show that learning to appreciate nature in true.
In Krakauer’s Into Thin Air, Krakauer and his expedition group journeyed to the top of Mount Everest, A small group of these climbers, called the sherpas, come from a place in Tibet where the land is heavily polluted and overly industrialized. Their old environment put these Sherpan in a depressed mood and also making then sick. During this clime, they began to appreciate the beauty of the mountain and by doing so they improved their mentality. By spending some time outside their over industrialized home and in Nature, the Sherpas learned to appreciate nature and by doing so they improve their mentality.
Similarly, Henry David Thoreau, before he decided to become a hermit for three years, was very depressed about the death of his closest connection, his brother. During his two year residency at Walden Pond, he learned to not only appreciate but also to love nature. In his account of his stay, in his book Walden, Thoreau talks about his enjoyment of being able to appreciate something again, a qually that he lost after his brother death. By spending time outdoors and to love the natural environment around him, Thoreau become more connected to nature and improved his overall health.
Just as Walden learned to appreciate nature, Shackleton learned to appreciate nature during his expedition to Antarctica. During the trip, the crew became very upset and depressed, They complained that they did not like their likelihood of getting back home and began to start wrestling with each other, Many began to fight with each other. Shackleton decided to fix this problem by ordering all the crew to get of the ship and onto the mainland with only their sleeping bags. With group of penguins working well together near them, they see how important it is to work with each other. They showed their appreciation by giving the penguins food afterwards. Once back on the ship, the crew learned from the penguins and worked together. Shackleton made the crew member to live in the nature world where the crew learned to appreciate nature and become motivated again to work.
The details analysis of shackleton, Thoreau, and Krakauer, Into Thir Air, the importance of spending time outdoor to learn to appreciate nature is evident.
