Im a current junior in the midst of AP Stress. I "passed" two tests last year, and I'm taking 5 total this year - I'm very hopeful for an AP Scholar Award.

Here are my Current AP Scores:
Psychology: 4
World History: 3

What I'm thinking for this year's scores
Environmental Science: 2+
Spanish: 2
English: 4
APUSH: 5
Calc AB: 1

With these 7, I have an average score of 3; enough to get the AP Scholar Award. But I know for sure that calculus is lower than a 2, so if I cancel that score my average will be 3.33, maybe higher. Meaning, if I cancel my Calc score now, I will more than likely receive at least the AP Scholar Award with Honor, potentially with Distinction.

So I guess what I'm wondering is whether it's worth it. I brought it up with a friend and they said it seems stupid - that an ap scholar award isnt worth it. But I'm looking at very selective schools and since I don't have many awards, I feel like every little thing will help.

Thanks for your input

Very selective schools will not value the AP Scholar awards that much, unless you don’t have that many awards to begin with.
Calc typically has a nice curve…

The Calculus AB subscore, Music Theory aural subscore, and Music Theory nonaural subscore are not used in the AP Scholar Award calculations, so you should be fine.

@icuinNm I thought the AB subscore was from the BC test?

@DigitalKing My teacher provided a fully graded/curved mock ap a few weeks ago - I barely managed a 2, and I did significantly worse on the free response on the actual test.
As of right now I can’t think of any other awards I have. I mean maybe Im over thinking it, but I didnt get any merit scholar awards or anything at all impressive

@icuinNm that is not an AB subscore if they took the actual AB exam…

If you do that badly on your exam(s), how are your grades? Are they equivalent? If so, perhaps you should lower your expectations

How’s your community service, do you belong to any clubs? Not all Schools even accept AP scores so they’re not going to care about the award. You need 4 & 5 scores to get any decent AP award. I would keep your grades up, do community service, clubs, etc. and forget about the AP factor. Find your strengths and build that up. Schools look at the all around not just scores. Just a suggestion
