^ Yeah, with some exceptions, khaki-colored chinos make you look like a 40 year old dude or a little kid dressing up for Sunday school. I don’t understand why people on this board are so fond of them.

Because they are comfortable and classic; and personally, I would much rather look like a 40 year-old businessman dressed casually, than a high schooler wearing cargo shorts and a flat bill cap.

Because they look formal yet casual at the same time.

what a stupid thread

Just so you know, I have worn nothing but cargo shorts since January, except for graduation, prom, and a random award ceremony. I have like 7 so I can cycle through them. They are the best garment because they aren’t too casual but they aren’t too formal. Plus you can keep **** in your pockets.

Those of you saying cargo shorts are awful have no sense of fashion. There’s nothing wrong wearing cargo shorts, no one will say anything to you about them, that is unless you happen to cross paths with a CC’er wearing above the knee Chino’s giving you the evil eye for wearing such an absurd piece of clothing. And to gogreek, thank you Captain Obvious for pointing out that for formal/business occasions you need to wear formal/business attire, I don’t think I could have figured that one out without your help. What a genius post! Wearing Chino’s won’t help you not to get laid, but they sure don’t help at all lol. How could you seriously believe your professor expects that someone who wears cargo shorts isn’t serious about their education. Since when did attire = dedication to education?

^ 100% agree (even if the post is from someone with “buckeyefan” in his username)

I don’t understand. If anything, I would think having buckeyefan as part of the username would increase their credibility.

^ It decreases his ethos, but there’s no denying it’s a logical post.

Of course, if you go to a school with a large campus and you have time-adjacent classes at opposite ends, you may need those running shoes.

Especially if you have to walk or bike .8 miles from one class to another class in less than 12 minutes across campus like some students.

6-8 inch inseam shorts are rather short, and many men will need considerable diet and exercise discipline to keep looking good wearing 6-8 inch inseam shorts (men wearing shorts that are wider than they are long do not look particularly good, if that is the goal).

Regarding the tackiness or ugliness of khaki / chino / cargo shorts in general, it has a lot more to do with the styling than the presence of the extra pockets. (Some of the non-cargo shorts examples posted upthread are rather ugly and tacky looking compared to one (not all) of the cargo shorts examples also posted upthread.)

I can’t imagine a 6’’ inseam. My testicles would be jiggling around in the fresh air if I were to wear those shorts. How short is someone that wears shorts that short? I usually wear 14’’ inseems, and they barely cover my knees.

i love how the same people who are talking about being ‘professional’ have probably gotten hammered several times, perhaps to the point of puking, and don’t seem to be waxing neurotic about other things like people who wear sweatpants to class

It’s college, not a courtroom. Dress how you want.

I am just shocked that there are 9 pages dedicated to a debate over cargo shirts.

Just wear whatever you want and shut up.

this is news to me. where i’m from (dallas, tx), cargo shorts are in. everybody wears them, especially now that it’s scorching hot everyday.

Unless you’re fighting in the jungles of Vietnam, there is no need for 20,000 pockets on your shorts. They’re just goofy.

How about …
WHO THE FU*K CARES

You guys sound like children geez

^
Says the person slinging curse words in caps on an online forum. Try not to get to worked up.

Cargo shorts allow ample space for a man’s testicles to breath and jiggle to and fro, freely without constraint. Can’t do that in 6’’ chinos eh?

Plus real men don’t care what they wear. They care what is practical.
