Carnegie Mellon RD discussion thread 2016

I think it’s a bit early. As much as I want to here, I won’t get my hopes up. I think I’ll email admissions now to be sure.

From their FB page:

^^^I just now saw that on their fb page. Seems like several schools are releasing early. Fine with me!

Maverick2016: If I go I will be doubling IRPE and Stats.
But I probs won’t go since they don’t give out much in finaid, and there are a few other schools that rank higher on my list that I know I can get into.

How long do you think it will take for the acceptance packages to begin reaching homes? 1-3 days? I live near nyc btw

Same im getting it in queens how long does that take

I applied to SCS. I got in at University of Illinosis at Urbana. I too am hoping if i get in to CM ,that they will match what University of Ill offered me. I also was accepted to Ohio State University-Honor’s Program and am being interviewed for the Presedential Scholarship. If I get it , it’s a full ride. That’s hard to walk away from
The waiting is annoying

^same here i got $32000 from rpi. If i get into cmu im hoping they will match much of it

CMU will negotiate FA if you are accepted to one of their Peer Institutions.

Peer Institutions

California Institute of Technology
Cornell University
Duke University
Emory University
Georgia Institute of Technology
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Northwestern University
Princeton University
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Rice University
Stanford University
University of Pennsylvania
Washington University in St. Louis

I met a student during my sleep over weekend, who was accepted into University Of Illinosis at Urbana, and CMU not only matched but gave him a bigger scholarship, and that is why he chose CMU. I think the peer institutions vary, depending on the student.

I didn’t think Rensselaer matches the caliber of the other schools? But idk how GIT is. Dang, guess I shoulda applied there to get a chance to increase my finaid package.

How does CMU send decision mails to domestic applicants? USPS First Class, or USPS Prioroty Mail, or UPS (which class)? Also does everyone recive the decision mail or only admitted students receive the mail?

So it seems like those who are accepted will receive the acceptance package by Monday (March 26) since, according to the USPS site, first class delivers “within 3 days in most cases” and priority mail “within 2 days in most cases.”

I’ve applied to CIT (undecided) and SCS. Anyone mind chancing? :-D

I applied to SCS first choice and CIT ECE second choice  hope everyone get in too :D

What about international students? How does CMU notify them? I mean it’ll prolly take a long time to reach someone in a small town in China. So do they release the decisions for internationals earlier on the website?

Nope Pratyush. It’ll reach you in a small town in India soon enough ;)

I don’t live in India btw Tizil hehe.

Decisions are mailed tomorrow and posted online on monday night!! (12:01 A.M EST Tuesday). I’m not holding out on getting the acceptance package before then because on the facebook page, the CMU Office of admissions commented that New Jersey would get acceptance packages on Monday, at the earliest, so it sounds like pretty much all out of state applicants will find out online first.

^Correction: they actually said 12:00:01 AM. :)

Us West Coast folks will probably get our decisions online before we get our letters…
