Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business vs UT Austin BHP

Both are excellent B-schools. Some would argue (I among them) McCombs >> Tepper, but they’re close enough to be even. Either one will give you excellent job prospects – what you DO in either one will be much more important that which one you go to.

I think you should look at a few factors such as:

  • where are you most likely to look for jobs after graduation? Texas? East Coast?
  • what kind of college experience do you want? big? small? sports?
  • what other offerings do you want? UT-A is a big public school that has everything, CMU smaller private with a heavy focus on CS and drama/theatre
  • Austin vs. Pittsburgh? (I would pick Austin, but this will be a matter of personal pref.)

All else being equal, being that you’re BHP gives McCombs the edge over Tepper. McCombs is very hard to get into as a direct admit, and BHP even harder. Hard to pass up. I’d pick McCombs.
