Not true … my son will be paying full tuition and still has to write an essay. I know of another kid who is in the same boat.

No, why would receiving a response form mean you were rejected? The decisions come out at 4:00 EST today.

They may get the same complaints again as last year; most of people will be rejected after submission of the essay. Do not put too much hope to it. Most people qualified for CMU have been already offered an equal or better position in other institutes, especially in-states with $50K lower cost annually.
Yes, do not put too much hope on it. CMU really should change this policy. How can you judge a student based only on one essay? They should stop doing this and just pick the students from PWL., like almost every other colleges. .
