CC student transferring to another CC before transferring to UC

Hello all, just wanted your input on my situation. I've just recently returned to community college (after a 9 year hiatus) in hopes to earn my AA in Nursing then transfer to a UC to get my BA. Unfortunately, I have about 10 W's and only 12 classes taken (pathetic, I know). My question is, if I transfer from this CC district into another, will my W's be ignored and unaccounted for in the new school system, or will they transfer into the new school system? Thank you in advance for replying.

When you transfer you have to report any grades, including W’s, you’ve received and at all schools you’ve attended. The W’s will follow you, but because you have taken so few classes, you have a lot of time to show them this behavior is in the past.

Empathy is right for the most part, everything will follow you regardless of when you took it; however when you have courses you took over 2 years ago you can have them disappear! like magic… not really. what happens if you have like…an F. you can get what is called an “academic renewal” I believe most CC’s have this. Be sure to check.

an academic renewal enables you to erase past grades off your record but it leaves you with a “Z” on your transcript which tells the UC that “hey i took this course a long time ago, fcked up, but im back on track now, forgive me!”
i believe you can request one from a counselor at your CC.

seeing how you have 10 W’s and 12 classes already taken, that will bring your GPA down drastically if they are really bad. but with Z’s atleast they will be voided. if anything be sure to always explain your situation when it comes time to apply. Ive seen someone get accepted to USC with a 2.67 GPA, he had the same case as you.

good luck!

Thank you very much for your input.

You do know that there’s a waitlist/lottery system for the AA nursing programs at almost every CC in california right? Even after completing the pre-reqs, you have to deal with a 2-3 year waitlist or get EXTREMELY lucky with a lottery selection. If I were you, I’d go for a BSN instead.

^^^^^
Almost all the CC in San Diego/Riverside County have gone to an academic point system now. And according to what I’ve read…a student can get points for speaking a foreign language, various “life experiences”, holding prior degrees and of course having high GPA in all the pre-reqs. They choose 80% of the candidates via the point system, and the other 20% through the lottery. Believe me, I damn near st myself when I heard about the waitlist issue and even considered going to National University (which I do not condone anyone do because they’ve been sending me spam…*?)…but now I have “hope” that I may just get in.
