Hi
I am ready o transfer out of the CC this coming year. I plan to apply to all the UCs AND possibly/if I can: NYU, Brown, Cornell, Darthmouth, UofM, UofW, and so on.

Info:
My current GPA is 3.4
- I recently recieved a AA Degree. (I dont know if that going to have any emphasis).
- I finished all my GE and recieved my IGETC Certification. (Only for UCs and CSUs)
- I volunteer with the city I live in and participate in varies clubs
- I mostly got B's and A's on my transcript and just one C

Now for the bad news:
- I withdrew from three of my acedemic class and recieved a (W) on my transcript. I withdrew because during those times my family was going through difficult times. My counsulor says three (W)s is bad, if I keep it at that I am safe.... What do you think??

Also because of the withdraws (W)'s, I had to repeat the coarse all over again and succeeded to obtain a A grade in most and B for the rest.. Is a repeat (R) annotation bad on your transcript, during the time you apply?

I was also wondering if the College Campuses will look at effort? Will they knock out your application because of the W's AND rEPEATS? Do they base it on grade? Can you help me out?

My counsulor gave me a thumbs up for the UCs but I dont know about the privates… since they do not really know about colleges other than UCs and CSUs

I would say to focus on the UCs. The top privates will be looking for considerably higher than a 3.4 plus high SATs which you don’t mention. Maybe the other state schools but they will be so much more expensive than the UCs and won’t give much aid to an OOS student.

For the UCs, no scores are needed, but most private colleges want them. The scores you note will help you, especially if they are closer to 2200.

But with a 3.4 the ivies remain huge reaches. They take very few transfers in general. I would suggest you consider some less selective private colleges if you want to look Beyond the UCs. But the bottom line is that the UC system is designed to take many CC transfers and private schools are not. The GPA and W’s will be a big issue.

USC may be a possibility as they have transfer agreements with CA CCs.

You keep saying private colleges and Ivies…

Im targeting NYU, U of M, U of W, and etc. Also… What about those? I am mainly targeting NYU

UCs: I dont care at this point because I have TAG (Transfer Agreement Program) with most campuses.

My GPA is currently 3.4, but im taking summer classes… probably will come out with a 4.0 summer gpa, which would make my total gpa at the time of transfer 3.5 or higher

USC is got accepted to while I was in High school back in 2007, I really have no interest for that school. I just want to get out of california… other than the UCs.

Also would the W’s still be a big issue if I took the class again and got a A?

You might want to start a different post because I think most people are reacting to your 3.4 ish GPA and Brown, Cornell, Darthmouth being included in your first line.

So you know that most people think you have chances at the UCs, and no chance at B,C,D.

So maybe ask again for the realistic schools in your heading or first line. Bet you will get a more studied response.

Those arent the only schools I mention and on the line i clearly stated a variety of colleges…but it seems like people here ignores other schools if a Ivy is mentioned

The most people your referring to~~ only one person replied besides you…

Its kinda to early to say that “I have no chance.” since my GPA is growing and etc.
All the schools I mentioned are realistic as it can be, all depends if I could pull all A’s this summer (Which happened 4 classes) and this coming fall. This would bring my GPA to about 3.6-3.7ish if not higher…

Well thanks for your responce, and I will start a more detailed/specific responce
