There has to be some special circumstance when a 4.0 perfect student isn't accepted at UCLA as a transfer. California Community College students that are involved in TAP, have their IGETC certified, have completed all prequisites for their major, and have above a 3.5 GPA are practically guaranteed admission.

Does anyone know what stats are needed to transfer into UCLA Economics from a CA resident who goes to a private University? I completed 4 classes at a local CC though and have a 3.62 GPA with A's in Calc, Statistics, Micro and Macro. However, I am expecting a 3.5 this semester.

Are my chance pretty good or non-existant?

Apexcel look at my post at your thread.

Bluvartouhi- Generally, your statement is correct. However, in some of the most impacted majors, rejecting very high GPAs is not as rare as we'd like to think. I know that communications has rejected at least a few 4.0s, as well as business econ and film (and any of the very specialized majors). None of them were cases with special circumstances, other than very very high application numbers and very few spaces in the program.

However, a 3.5 (with tap and everything else) is still considered on the lower end for any of the impacted majors, including poli sci, sociology, psychology, etc. I'd say that it's the very lowest anyone would want to apply with for any major thats somewhat common/popular/etc.

Obviously, I hope that your statement holds true this year. I don't think that it's going to be that predictable, and unfortunately no one is "practically guarenteed" anymore. This situation is going to make for a very nervous six months.

Mexbruin- Regarding your questions about TAP, it depends on how many honors units you've completed. We're required in January to fill out and send TAP forms, which is esentially our proof of completing the program. Because of this, our honors director was asking anyone who hadnt officially joined the honors program to do so this month. I dont know how this will differ in your school.

However, if you are able to finish your 15(?) honors units by the end of spring semester, I think your honors director may let you complete a TAP form. It won't look suspicious since you would be sending in your form with everyone else. It may, however, look suspicious if you attempt to take the entire course of honors classes in the 1 semester. I say that if you've already done some honors work, and know for sure that you'll be completely finished by spring, you should check off TAP on your application. This is generally the rule of thumb at my school.

My best advice is to talk to your school's honors department and get it straight from the source.

sorry for my ignorance but what does TAP stands for?

TAP stands for Transfer Alliance Program. Most of the community colleges located near UCLA have such a program that, in exchange for taking specific honors courses, participating in some sort of community service, and maintaining a certain GPA (usually 3.0 or higher), students are guaranteed priority CONSIDERATION for UCLA, and usually given priority ADMISSION for some of the less impacted UC's. (UCLA, unfortunately, will NEVER guarantee admission. It's too popular and has too many applicants to be able to promise anything like that.) Colleges like Pasadena City College, Glendale Community College, or any of the Los Angeles Community Colleges have about a 90% rate of acceptance for the students in their respective TAP programs. At the schools themselves the Transfer Alliance Program might also go by the name "Scholars Program" or "Honors Program."

I was so unfortunate tat i missed out on the TAP program..never really know about it, just thought that it would be a waste of time...only thing i would regret if UCLA rejects me with 3.71 (possibly 3.69), with most of my majors done except physics and IGETC certified, lots of EC...wut a bummer i'm, but i'm also lookin at UMICH and UVA...good luck everyone

almost forgot...i'm majoring in Molecular and Cell Bio (very impacted majors =[)...very unfortuante..

i dont understand...UC's have to take us CC students! esp with honors program! :]

wow! it was just last year tat i applied to UCs...i got into all the UCs i applied to (UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI) and currently attending UCB...i remember i used to stress about this, but now i'm stressing about the difficulty level of my classes at berkeley...good luck...if anyone have questions just ask me..

um...look don't stress over it. yes it's true that some people with 3.8 GPAs don't get accepted...but then some people with 3.3 GPAs get accepted too...so it's not like the computers make the decisions. Just apply and hope for the best.

I transferred from a California Community College to UCLA with Economics. At first I aimed for Bus. Econ, but just didn't want to take Accounting so I went with Econ instead.
GPA: 3.68
I was involved in the honors program and TAP. It gives you a super duper chance of getting into UCLA if you're invovled.

wow CCCT congrats! what were your ECs? did you have your ochem and biochem done? from what CC did you transfer from?

As others have said, make sure to do TAP and Honors. That will greatly increses your chances of getting in.

CCCT- How are you liking Berkeley thus far?

does anyone now how UCLA reacts to courses taken at other CCCs?

I think anyone saying % chances of you getting in is quite inaccurate.
I just have to say that you are within the range of whom UCLA will accept. I got in with a 3.4~ before spring grades and a final of 3.37 into UCLA, SD, Irvine, Riverside, but rejected from Berkeley. But as all application procedures, things are kind of random. A good personal statement will be crucial though. From what i remember, 4 of the admissions personnel all have to approve of your application.
Good luck!

mrkoolguy, what was ur major?

UC adm. people say that 3.2+ is good enough for non impacted majors, but the stats indicate otherwise that u need at least a 3.4+.

we'll find out soon enough. :)

highschoolda, you're on the scholar's program right?

Are there any other types of TAPs for UC Berkeley from a CCC, specifically DVC?

How does one enter the program?
