cell phone service

Anyone know if there is a particular company that works the best in Conway??? Sprint, Cingular, ...etc???

We have Cingular and it has worked fine for Conway and everywhere my S has traveled in that area (including Memphis and a trip to New Orleans). When he started his freshman year last year, the area did not have Verizon, but I understand that they do now. I would check them out.

Preironic:
Did your S keep his home number or get a new one>?? S is on the family plan here in TX and I wondered if I need to get him a new # with local Conway area code...

We also have the family plan here in Texas and he kept his home number. Judging from our phone bill (an interesting read by the way), all of the students seem to have done the same. There are few calls from or to any Conway numbers. Also, due to the students' late night tendencies, most calls are in the nights and weekends category.

Thanks...did you add text messaging to your plan?? It seems like my kids rather text than call!

No, I didn't, but I need to. Some months there are over 100 text messages! I keep threatening to have that phone surgically implanted for him.

lol...we seem to live parallel lives! Thanks for all your insight...I guess I'll leave him on our plan and just add the text message option.
Here's another question...did you have him open a checking account in Conway or did you just keep one in Texas with a debit card?

We opened an account here with mixed results. He used the ATM much more than I thought and the fees were killing him, so when he was home over Xmas, he found a bank with no ATM fees anywhere. That has worked out better. There is an ATM in the Burrow and the business office will cash checks of up to $50 during the week. I think there is a Bank of America just down the street, so you might check out if it would be advantageous to use them. I think we didn't because they didn't have the free checking that the other banks had, but I can see that if he works in Conway this year that it would be nice to have a local branch for deposits.

I have an NJ Verizon number and its terrible because there is no Verizon in AR. Alltel and Cingular are probably the best, Sprint is alright too but I have heard that once you get on the interstate and out of Conway, it can get fuzzy.
