Chance for Cornell, Columbia, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and more!!!! Will chance back!!!!

Hey so I'm a rising senior this year and have started my Common Application. I would like a little feedback on my list and any tips for some last minute changes namely testing and college/major choices. I'm potentially looking to go to an engineering program to major in biomedical or chemical engineering depending on what each school offers. If the university has no engineering school, or I don't plan on applying to its engineering school, assume that I will major in chemistry.

ACT:
First time: (M:36, E:34, R:32, S:29 W:8)
Second Time: (M:32, E:34, R:32, S:32, W:9)
I didn't do too much substantial preparation for either test, and plan on retaking in September for a higher score like a 34 or 35
SATII:
Chem:790
Math Level 2: 800
US History: 740

GPA: 96 weighted; 92 un-weighted
No class ranking
Upward trend, low freshman year

APs:
Chem: 5
Eng. Lang.: 5
Stats: 4
US History: 4

Curriculum:
All honors and took the most possible APs as a junior
Will have completed 9 out of 17 AP courses offered at my school, tied for the most in my class
Senior Year Courses:
AP Calc BC, AP Biology, AP Physics: C, AP Lit, AP US Gov't.

Public High School

List of Schools:
Cornell Engineering (ED + Legacy)
Columbia Engineering (Legacy)
UPenn Engneering
Duke
WUSTL (Maybe Engineering)
Boston College
UVA Engineering (EA + Legacy)
Colgate
Lehigh Engineering
JHU Engineering
Villanova (EA + Uncle attended there)
GWU
Tufts Engineering
Georgetown
Rutgers

As you said, do your ACT again. If you get a 34 or 35. Then you are in for Boston college, colgate, tufts, rutgers and georgetown. However the ivies are still reaches for you. Tbh in my opinion your ECs are not impressive.

Anyways good luck

Some of your ECs are pretty interesting, but I would definitely consider really prepping for and retaking the ACT if you want to get into these top colleges. Right now most of your schools would be reaches, but after raising your ACT just a few points you can probably get into quite a few of if not most of your schools. I would say that at this moment you have a good shot at BC, Lehigh, Villanova, Rutgers, GWU and being a legacy at many of those other schools should help too. Best of luck!

You show a lot of dedication towards ice hockey! Keep that up! If you’re able to get 35 on your ACT, your chances would be increased dramatically! I agree with waseezafar’s chance, except wustl and JHU should have been included! Have you considered UC Berkeley? It has a good engineering department, and I think it’s a match for you! Good luck!
Please chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

Cornell Engineering is always a gamble, even if you’re ED and a legacy. Are you going to play for their hockey team? Colgate sounds like a good match school for you (I see it’s already on their list) not only for their academics, but for their hockey as well.

bump

Like everyone said retaking your act would be great but otherwise your scores are pretty common for accepted students at even the ivies. I don’t think your extracurriculars are okay they’re just not outstanding. Since you obviously have a focus in engineering that should show through at least one EC. Otherwise though your class list is fantastic and as of now your only reaches are Columbia, Cornell, upenn, duke, and possibly wash u.
Chance back! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/washington-university-st-louis/1675956-chance-me-wash-u.html#latest</a></p>

Def work on your EC. Act is fine but get that a few points higher. But DEF work on EC. You’re lacking hard in them.

Your grades and scores (with the exception of your ACT which you should definitely consider raising even though it’s already fine) look great. However, you really want to make yourself stand out with ECs. It’s probably just lack of depth, but when you’re applying you want to stress which of those ECs you’re passionate about and how they make you stand out as an individual. Grades, although important, don’t really distinguish you because they get thousands of application with the same statistics, so make yourself sound particularly interesting with the ECs

An Asian playing ice hockey. Nice job. This will help you to stand out. Your writing score on the ACT needs to be higher.

Legacy status is your best friend. Pick Cornell or Columbia and apply ED. You will most likely be accepted. Good luck

I don’t know much about the application and admissions process (I’m a senior too) but I’ll offer my two cents based on what I do know. Your academic stats are impressive, but your ECs aren’t WEAK, as others say. I think you just need to present them in a way where you’ll show that you’re passionate about the few you’re involved in.

I’d suggest taking the ACT one more time (hope you registered for the September one before August 8th.) Try to raise your Science score. If you PM me, I could give you tips for it; I got a 33 on the Science section. In return, could you give me tips for the Math? The Math section is literally dragging my score down right now.

Read some ACT workbooks to improve Writing. The red book is the best for tips, by the way. I got an 8 the first time and a 10 the second. I plan to get it up to an 11 or 12 in September :)

You also have a HUGE upperhand against other applicants because of your legacy status. Definitely apply to those schools.

Chance me, please?

I’ll be the first to say that I’m no expert, but I think that all the ivies will be reaches. I am a rising senior with similar stats, (your SAT II’s are definitely better though), and people have been telling me that Cornell, Hopkins, and Penn will be high reaches for me. I think you should take the ACT one more time and shoot for a 34/35 (That’s what I’m doing), and hope for the best. For people like me and kevinjuan, how can we up our chances to get in to some of these schools?

Check me out: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1676659-chance-me-for-upenn-cornell-johns-hopkins-uva-wake-forest-and-unc.html#latest</a></p>

You stats are very impressive and you’re obviously qualified for these schools but you need to make yourself stand out. I would maybe ED to one of the schools you have legacy for that would definitely increase you chances. Most importantly however, really stress your ECs in your application and make sure you seem passionate about something specific so that it sets you apart from other applicants. Good luck! chance me back if you’re able to :)

Your scores are pretty common for Ivies, but they’re good. Your ECs are not particularly impressive, but they’re good. Your ice hockey dedication will be noticed, though. Overall, these schools are a gamble.

Hi! so your scores could be a bit higher, hopefully they go up in October though! your ECs are impressive but a bit mundane. Not saying one needs to cure cancer to procure acceptance to a top school hahaha, but make sure you really emphasize the importance of the ECs in your essays. I have seen good essays about climbing trees, no joke. So at this point, I would say cornell is quite likely considering ED/legacy, just get really good recs. Chance me back? Thanks
