Chance for every UC?

GPA: 3.92 capped weighted, 3.63 UW, 4.23 uncapped; ACT: 32 composite (31 math, 31 reading, 35 English, 29 science) superscore is 33; SAT 2: 740 Chem, 660 Math 2; AP: 3 3’s (Psy. , Chem, US History) so I got the AP Scholar award 8 AP’s (2 Honors, 2 college courses); Really good extracurriculars; 100 hours of community service (all at same place) got award; Income: High; State: So Cal, really good school nationally; essays: good; race: Asian male; major: undeclared (not engineering) probs history

You look like a qualified and competitive applicant. Test scores are a very good and even though you do not list your EC’s, hopefully you have some leadership opportunities to list.

If you are not planning on pursuing a STEM related major, why take the science SAT II’s? Having a strong score on one of the History exams may serve you better.

The following admit rates are not major specific so if you are entering as Undeclared, your chances may be higher. As always, UCLA/UCB are Reach schools but the rest of the UC’s are definitely possible.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:

UCB: 14%
UCLA: 14%
UCSD: 44%
UCSB: 54%
UCD: 58%
UCI: 65%
UCSC: 85%
UCR: 94%
UCM: 96%

25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:
UCB: 30-34
UCLA: 30-34
UCSD: 29-34
UCSB: 28-33
UCD: 26-32
UCI: 26-32
UCSC: 26-31
UCR: 23-30
UCM: 20-27

Best of luck.

@Gumbymom it’s because im not exactly sure what to major in.

Fair enough.

UCSC, UCR and UCM are likely to admit you to MOST programs. The odds aren’t with you for the rest of them. SDSU and CSULB are also worth an ap.
Good luck.

@NCalRent why not other uc’s? What is the main thing lacking?

@NCalRent im applying undeclared history

UC GPA is king for the UCs. Yours is just a but below the GPA is spot on the 25th percentile for Davis. UCI and UCSB are now a little higher. I think you should apply and, perhaps 2 of the top 6 UCs will accept you, Which 2 - hard to say.
It really is that competitive.

I think you shot yourself by taking too many hard classes. /With a lighter load and a 3.8 UW 4.2 W and you’d be in a different position.

@NCalRent They also look at uncapped.

they look at your whole transcript - not just a single gpa calculation and will consider course rigor - which is why i encourage you to apply but, you are still in the 25th percentile for GPA so, your odds are pretty long. They reject alot more people with your stats than they admit. Make those essays sing!
good luck

@NCalRent do you know if the GPAs they give on their home page are capped or uncapped? I know Berkeley’s is uncapped. Like for example on UCSD: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/campuses/san-diego/freshman-profile/index.html.

Stay positive @dweebeeb3 - if your UC GPA is 3.92 with a 32 ACT I think you have a decent shot at most of the mid tier UC’s. Good EC’s combined with good essays make them all a possibility for you.

The Freshman profiles on the UC Website show the capped weighted UC GPA. On UCLA’s and UCB’s school website they will show the fully weighted UC GPA.

What is the max UC capped possible?
Do we have a link that says they are using UC capped in their stats?

it would be almost mathematically impossible for a school’s average capped GPA to reach 4.3-4.4, since most students take about 6 classes per semester, so 24 classes over 10th-11th grades gives a max capped GPA of about 4.3. So it cannot be that 75% of Davis is 4.23 out of 4.3 UC capped. It must me just weighted.

Maximum capped is 4.4 UC GPA.
A 4.23 UC GPA is at the 75th percentile, not that 75% of the admitted students had this GPA for UCD.
https://www.ucdavis.edu/admissions/undergraduate/student-profile

However, 78.8% of the Freshman admits had a GPA over at 4.0 or higher.

@Gumbymom I’m a bit confused about the gpa ranges on the uc website. To confirm, ucb and ucla display the uncapped and the rest of the UC’s display the capped, right? Which one does ucsd display? The range for ucb was 4.15-4.30. Is that capped or uncapped?

The UC GPA ranges posted on the UC website under the Freshman profiles are the UC GPA capped weighted. On the UCLA and UCB school websites they post their fully weighted UC GPA.

All the UC’s use the UC capped weighted GPA but only UCLA/UCB state that also consider the fully weighted UC GPA.

UCSD uses the capped weighted.

UCB’s range of 4.15-4.30 is capped weighted.
Their fully weighted average is 4.44 on their website. 25th-75th percentiles are not posted.

UCLA does not list their 2017 GPA on their website but for 2016 their fully weighted UC GPA range was 4.29-4.58
Capped weighted for 2017 was 4.13-4.31.

I also saw something presented on UCLA’s sight touting average unweighted GPA as 3.9, so they really like high stats in all categories.
