Chance me as Transfer to Emory/UVA/NYU/UMich/UNC/GWU?

Background:
-Asian Male
-Transferring from VA CC as an incoming Junior
-Northern VA/DC native - personal statement will be strong (passion for gw and culture/diversity)
-Applying to GWSB for Finance

Stats:
-GPA: 3.4/4.0. 3.5+ when I receive my associate’s this spring, but I guess that will be irrelevant
-Dean’s List x4 Semesters, Presidential Scholar x1 Semester
-3 Letters of Recommendation (1 from Dean of Accounting, 1 from Dean of Economics, 1 from former VP of Chamber of Commerce - currently my professor)
My gpa is so low because I took dual enrollment classes in high school and slacked off/didn’t care, ever since enrolling full time i’ve been on dean’s list - but have been weighed down by a D and 2 C’s from HS

-President/Founder of finance related club
-President/Founder of professional development club for diversity students
-Member of Stock Market Club
-Volunteer experience
-Charity/Fundraising experience

Relevant to Major EC/Work Experience/Internships:
-Financial Analytics Summer Internship at Bloomberg L.P. this past summer in London
-Studied abroad in London this past summer, studying financial markets at UEL
-Bloomberg Market Concepts certification
-Banking internship at credit union a few years ago
-Currently a Systems Specialist(developing a program) at a tech. company (this is non-related to Finance, however, the job requires extreme attention to detail, organizational skills, time management, teamwork, patience, etc. - soft skills that are necessary to acquire)

I would look at VPI, George Mason, and James Madison, at least as safes. A 3.4 from a CC without high school test scores etc. is not all that good.

@sattut I’m already accepted into American University as my safety, much better than any of those three. Also - i’m applying to the Econ @ these schools not the business schools (ross, stern, mcintire, etc.)

The average transfer GPA to UVA is a 3.5 and I feel that my EC’s + upward trend with no less than a 3.667 GPA ever since graduating HS make me a competitive applicant!

My SAT from 2015 is a 2200.

The SAT is important information, and high school GPA and if you were taking AP classes. The 3.4 from CC doesn’t do that much for you. You have to give the high school information to get reasonable responses.

The 3.5 average transfer GPA at UVA is not just for CC, and includes people transfer from schools harder than UVA.

@sattut My highschool stats will not be looked at by half of these schools. I am completing my associates this spring and will have a 3.5-3.6 by the time I graduate - but it will be 3.4 when I submit my apps.

That being said - I go to the biggest feeder cc for transfers to UVA (NVCC), a very very very miniscule amount of people transfer from OOS better schools. UVA prefers community college transfers - not people already at 4 years. Also, my CC system accounts for half of UVA fall transfers alone. I also meet every requirement on their guaranteed admissions agreement but am not applying as a guaranteed transfer because I am applying to other schools as well.

Do/did you go to UVA? UVA or GW are my two best shots at transferring on this list lol

I am sure they take a lot of CC transfers, but the 3.5 average GPA is not the average GPA from CCs. The average from 4 year schools is lower and for CCs higher.

Your 2000 on the SAT is a huge factor. They will look at your high school record and scores.

I did not go to UVA. I actually transferred from a much lower 4 year college to Johns Hopkins. The main thing they were interested in was my 800 and 740 SAT subject tests. High school scores are important in transfer applications.
