Budget?

UCLA/UCB give little to no FA to OOS applicants so if you have $65K/year to attend, you are a competitive applicant.

You have no safe school on this list. You’re in the ballpark stat-wise for Cornell, but the success of your application will depend on which school you’re applying to. You’ll get deferred from UMich because they’ll gamble that you would not select it if accepted. Tufts is all about fit. You’d have to demonstrate why you want to go there.

My kid had similar stats and was accepted EA at UMich. Another recent applicant had a 4.0/1,600 and was deferred and rejected. IMO, you have to want it and your essays should show it and then I believe UMich looks at the typical yield from your high school. Our local public has a very good UMich yield.

Overall OOS acceptance rate at UMich is 19%.

As an OOS student, you’ll be very competitive for UCLA and UCB.

I have safeties, I just didn’t add them

Uncertainty is the new normal, and it’s going to be that way for the foreseeable future. The last thing you need is to go to a distant exotic school and find out that dad got laid off, or business failed…etc. That scenario has been much more common lately. The best thing you can do for your future is to go somewhere affordable and be happy you did.
