Your stats, GPA, rank, and EC’s definitely match Cornell’s standards, and your awards and honors are excellent. I’d say a high match. If the essays are as good as you describe them to be, then you have a great chance of getting in.

Yeah. There’s good and bad to the ranking situation. The good is that 10 were actually admitted and the 8 that I mentioned just includes those that actually went. So it’s actually a more favorable number. The bad is that about 3 of those (or so) are going for sports. So, in actuality, it’s more like 5 are going on academic merit. Thanks so much for your response and I really appreciate the input.

As a sidenote, I usually like to take my time when I chance back to make sure I don’t mislead anyone so I’ll look through your thread as soon as I get an opportunity. Thanks again.

EDIT: I totally forgot that, as a benefit of the Adelphi award, I was able to take two free classes there (which I took over this past summer). I wanted to take classes with my future major in mind so I took a National Economy class and a Natural Sciences and Environmental Problems class. I received a 4.0 GPA in both.

I can’t believe i forgot to mention them haha. Further chances would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think it’s a Low Reach, but you definitely have a shot. You are a very competitive applicant, and I hope you get in. If you don’t get in, don’t let it affect you because you do have a strong application.

Scores match and you have solid ECs, so I think the essays and recs might push you into the high(ish) match range. Taking those classes there might be catalysts in your acceptance, too. Good luck app, chance would be appreciated!

Scores are within Cornell’s standards. Grades, AP tests, extracurriculars, essays, & recs all seem good.

Still, Cornell is an Ivy League. Ivy Leagues are a reach for everyone, though I would say you have a better chance than most. Low reach/high match.

As I had mentioned before, the general consensus seems to be high match/low reach (just in acknowledgement of the last 2.5 pages of chances) but, as always, more input would be appreciated. This program is incredibly selective and an objective opinion, at least to me, is incredibly important as decisions are about 2 weeks away by this point.

my brother goes to cornell aems. he says that aem’s class of 2013’s sat middle 50% was 1400-1540, and 30% of the ED class were recruited athletes, and most of them had over a 1500 on their sat, so i’d say low reach

luckily early decision is more lenient, the regular decisions are brutal; only 30-ish people of the total aem’s class was admitted regular decision and they were apparently, but not surprisingly, all overqualified prodigies who were rejected/deferred from wharton

Yeah. I have the class of 2016 profile and their median is a 1440 and their mid 50% is 1340-1500 so, if you’re right, statistically, competitiveness is incredibly high on a yearly basis. So, by that standard, I will be at or slightly below the median score with my 1460 but I’m hoping that my fit (the fact I want to go for environmental economics) should hopefully help at least a little. The more and more I think about it, the harder it really is to gauge myself against the standards of the school.
