Chance me for elite schools with my improved midyear report? WILL CHANCE BACk

Current high school senior that already got accepted into the University of Michigan EA, please give me a rough % chance of getting accepted into (regular decision):

Duke (had a pretty nice interview, she was impressed with my ECs)

Rice

Vanderbilt

Washington University in St. Louis (they superscore ACT)

University of Pennsylvania- Wharton

Columbia University

Brown University

University of Chicago- got deferred EA, have been in contact with admissions and they said that midyear report grades play a large factor in being reconsidered for admission (not sure if he was just saying that)

I have safeties and "matches" already, but I'm applying to these elite schools in desperate hope that I'll get accepted to at least ONE of them. What do you think?

Major: Business Administration/Economics/International Business

Here are my stats:

3 Year Graduate (I took enough online classes to skip 11th grade, not sure if that hurts or harms my chances)

GPA: 4.0/4.0 and 5.4/6.0 My rank is in the top 5%- my school doesn't rank precisely

Not sure of precise ranking because counselors refuse to tell me, but definitely top 20 (top 5%)- got straight As as final grades for my midyear report (not a slacker lol)

SAT: 2010- 660 R 670 M 680 W Superscore Kinda low, I know- only downside of my application IMO

ACT: 30- 34 E 28 M 27 R 30 S 11 Essay (34 combined writing and essay) but also a 32 superscore (29 E 32 M 30 R 25 S 10 Essay on my third test) with a 34 E 32 M 30 R 30 S 11 Essay in total- this would apply for Wash U and Chicago

I know my standardized test scores are mediocre compared to the average applicants to these universities (around the 20-40 percentile), but can my GPA make up for it? My essays and LORs will be pretty nice, as I'm confident that the two teachers I got to write my letters (social studies and biology) wrote really nice letters. I also have some nice hooks with a whole LOT of ECs and community service. So now that you know all this about me, what do you think?

I beg you- please look beyond my standardized test scores when chancing me

Thank you for your time I greatly appreciate it- WILL CHANCE BACK! :D

I’d say you SHOULD have at minimum a 50/50 shot. I know that’s not super specific, but you know how colleges are about Standardized tests.

And I also saw your title so awkward cough… http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1452182-chance-me-please.html</a></p>

thanks for the chance- bump?

If you wrote about overcoming your personal difficulties, I think that you have solid chance at all those schools. I would think that those schools would understand your relatively low SAT score by looking at your income bracket, but that’s just my guess.

Best of luck!

I think you are a stellar applicant overall, and I am sure some of these colleges will see that as well. Maybe you need to tell them though which of those ECs are the most important to you, since I have no idea how you are as a person other than I know that you don’t have much spare time to play xbox exactly…

Your turn to chance me: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1452236-please-chance-me-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

thanks for the chances- bump!!!

umm… bump?

The biggest killer here is scores. And you must remember that TONS of people applying to these schools have perfect GPAs. But your hooks are rather good.

  1. Duke - Reach
  2. Rice - Low Reach (maybe even high match if good recs/essays)
  3. Vanderbilt - idk
  4. Washington University in St. Louis (they superscore ACT) - Low reach
  5. University of Pennsylvania- Wharton - High reach (wharton is super selective)
  6. Columbia University - High Reach
  7. Brown University - Reach
  8. University of Chicago - Reach

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1450755-2270-sat-good-leadership-chances-cornell-upenn-stanford-2.html</a></p>

thanks for the chance- bumpppppp

bump???

Your ACT Math 28/32 and SAT I Math 670 seem a little weak for Economics and Business at these universities. What are your AP Calculus BC and SAT II Math II test scores? If you have 750+ and 5/5 on these you are probably okay.

I’m in Precal right now (I skipped a year so I can’t really take Calculus) didn’t take math 2 sat

I think your hook and challenging circumstances will mostly compensate for your test scores (they are very solid, just low for the caliber of school you are looking at). I think you will get into at least 3 of the 8, probably more if you expressed yourself well in your essays. Just remember, these schools are reaches for practically anyone.

  1. Duke (low reach)
  2. Rice (low reach)
  3. Vanderbilt (low reach)
  4. Washington University in St. Louis (reach) they like demonstrated interest…
  5. University of Pennsylvania- Wharton (reach)
  6. Columbia University (reach)
  7. Brown University (reach)
  8. University of Chicago- got deferred EA, (low reach/high match), if your 1st semester grades were good.
    Best of Luck
    chance me back

sorry what do you mean by demonstrated interest? emailing admissions saying how u look forward to being considered?

this is like your third chance thread, with your other ones receiving over 50+ comments

you have a shot at these schools, calm down.

you have a really good shot if you write really good essays.
