Brown et al routinely deny admission to most students with your statistics. The message here is that those schools are a reach for almost everybody, so it’s best to have that mindset before you apply. In other words, your stats fit the profile of both accepted and rejected students. Go ahead and apply, with open eyes.

P.S. Pomona is a great school :-)

Brown says no to:
76% of Valedictorians
85% of Salutatorians
86% of those who had a 750-790 CR
84% of those with an 800 Math
79% of those with an 800 W

I agree with what the person above said. You never know with those schools. Btw, make sure to apply to some safeties too just in case

4.56 GPA is really good considering the system you described. SAT is also pretty good.

However, you’ll need more than grades/scores to get in. as the people above said, you have slightly better chances than the average applicant but you have to show everything in your essays (your ECs and how you could contribute/benefit, etc.) then again, a few of your activities are very impressive so I would say

HYPS/princeton - reach
Penn/brown - low reach
Pomona/vanderbilt - low reach to high match
USC - safety

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1515027-chance-me-ill-chance-you-back.html</a> if you can!!! :D

Wow, you sound almost exactly the same as me. I got a 2240 (low CR at 680, high math, and writing:760, and 800). I also have a perfect GPA, took us history and math 2 (though I got an 800 on math). I also have similar ECs. The one thing that’s different that might hurt you is that you’re Asian, which could definitely make it harder for you.

As for chances, no Ivy League is not a reach, beacuse you never know with them. All you can hope for is the best, but it’s always worth a shot to send in your application.

By the way, did you take a gap year or something? Cause you listed how you participated in things your senior year already…

Thanks for all the replies! :)

@satman1111: Nope, we elect officers/announce captains/etc. before the new school year begins.

Harvard and all the other Ivies are reaches just because of their immense selectivity. You never know with them. But virtually every other school you’ve mentioned is either a match or a safety. Count on Vandy as a safety. I personally don’t think you’ll get in to USC because a) you’re Asian-American, and b) you’re almost TOO GOOD for USC. They routinely wait list people with stats like yours because they don’t believe you’ll actually go there if admitted, and they want to keep their yield rate high.

Of all the Ivies, you have the best chances at Brown and UPenn. Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and Princeton are all crapshoots regardless of who you are. But I’m confident you’ll get into at least one of them, if not more.

thanks! bumppp

Yeah, you’ll probably get into many of these places. Being a psychology major helps too, because it seems everyone and their mom who scored well on their SAT and is a competitive applicant wants to go pre-med.

How do you know you got all 5’s on your AP tests if scores have not been released?

thanks for the responses!
@aliendays: That’s true, but I’m just estimating my AP score.

I think you have a very strong application. The top ivies and even brown are still reaches because they reject people who are absolutely amazing, people with 5 patented and businesses!

You are definitely a stronger applicant than most, but be aware that ivies don’t want only grades and SATs now (reject countless 2400 and 4.0). They want something special, and it doesn’t have to be through accomplishments but through your essay.

Advice: write a stellar essay and you’ll have a good shot

Since you’re an Asian-American, you’ll probably need a 2350+ SAT score to get into HYPS. Right now, your score is about 100 points off. Is there any way you can improve it?
Other than that, your stats are excellent. All of the other schools you mentioned are either matches or safeties.

Due to your ethnicity, HYPS are gone. Your SATs are too low, both subject tests and non. All of your non-academic stuff is sporadic and has no focus, so that’s another big part. What AP classes have you taken before? Why are you not in BC? I think you have a reasonable shot at the others, except Pomona or Penn (same reasons as above).
